Reverting given ROS orders v1084

Post by Walloc »

As per updated to v1084 i've noticed to great annoyance that some of my TFs inparticular subs when given remain on station orders them self change it to retirement allowed. I'd say about 1/3 of my subs TFs per turn. No damage or any thing incurred.

This means u hafta go by every single sub that u wana guard a specific hex every turn to check for this. Highly annoying[:)]

Bug or intend?

Kind regards,

Rasmus

Do you have auto sub ops on?

If not, post a save.

Hi Don,

Made a test game i forgot to save each turn so u will hafta let 2 turns pass. Sorry.
2 files 100 turn 2 and 101 turn 4. All subs in file 100 are N of manila on ROS. In file 101 3 of the non damaged sub with ammo left have gone on retirement allowed. S-39. Perch, Salmon as the 3. I cant see a reason why they should have done it. Unlike Porpoise that gets damaged.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

Sorry, should have recognized this as soon as it was posted.

The Remain On Station order is incompatible with a Max Reaction Range greater than zero. Once the Sub TF gets on station and detects an enemy TF it MUST clear it's remain on station order so it can react to the enemy TF. I understand that it would be best to have it react and then return to station but that is not mechanically possible with the current movement control processes within the game. Very complicated in there, my friends.

The solution is to NOT use Remain on Station for patrols. Use Patrol Zones. Remain on Station was used for Patrol in WITP but the introduction of patrol zones in AE replaced that. Remain on Station should only be used for TFs that you really want to remain on station, and then with react range set to zero.
