Defending the Empire

Post by Q-Ball »

It's early in my PBEM, too early to think much about defense, but looking around the map is giving me a headache.

There are SO many buildable bases now. The Solomons has 0 (5) airbases all over the place; not all have buildable ports, but enough that you can't defend them all.

In WITP, it was a valid allied tactic (just like RL), to bypass strongly defended points, land a pile of engineering troops, build the base up, rinse and repeat. Once Japan loses control of the Air, there isn't a ton you can do to stop this in the long-run.

This is less-valid in the outlying Pacific Islands, where you are limited by the number of troops you can drop there, but in the Solomons, this looks like it's going to be a problem!

With no ports unloading will take forever, unless you have APAs and you don't get them for ages.
I suppose it could be done if you plan correctly. Land one or two of those Pacific Naval Support Detachments first then bring in engineers on small AP/AKs - never use xAP/xAK. Will still take days so you are vulnerable until land-based CAP is established.
Very do-able against AI, not so sure in PBEM.

I'm afraid there's no way then to hope that our glorious Navy does the job.The Kongos together with our CAs in night attacks as well as Carrier planes and Bettys.
There are so countless bases all over the place, you won't have a chance to defend them all.

Also, look at Japan. Dozends of bases just a few hexes off the coast. One of these in the Imperialists hands and we'll have problems...
