RTFM questions, i know, i know.... but
I know these are RTFM questions, but im away from the manual and my .exe on my laptop is isolated with the dlls and no manual there either (dont ask, long story)- i have skimmed the manual but am diving into a IJN PBEM with my old opponent Yank and just need a few quickies resolved before i finish turn 1:
1. what are the equivalents now of my old av regiments (150+) av support and where are they hiding
2. and the naval support units help increase a port from 1-2, 2-3 etc but how many do i need to bump up this number and do they need to be the first units ashore when i get there and is their effect instant?
3. where the hell have all the divisions gone - i was looking for 2 4 16 48 and 56 to unleash an evil plan but theyve vanished! well apart from 4 i found that, and 2 - so 16, 48 and 56?
4. is it still recommended to boost zeros production to 250/300 and betties up to 200?
5. does that mabel look better than my kates?
thanks for any help as i try and plan turn 1 manual-less!!!

ah ok, found all the divisions split into little sections - when they are all in the same place again, can one reform them?

Yes, you can reform them. Also, the SSD is the 144th In Reg, I believe. They're loaded on a TF. I may have that somewhere around here. Let me check....

Yup, here it is. 144 In Reg, starts the Grand Campaign on TF 20 bound for Guam. I believe it's on of the regiments of the 55th Inf Div, in Burma.

RE: RTFM questions, i know, i know.... but
always helpful - can i adopt you as my AE dad? [:D]
i take it its fleet hqs to allow me the torpedos?
and do i just look around for who provides nav support to increase the port facilities?
and im still having difficulty finding any AV support whoppers
also is it a design feature that when i create a tf and then a second one, i cant always see the first one again when i come to combine the 2? its just not in the list

Yes, I believe Fleet HQs do the torp thing. Check the manual for details. It's pretty important.
You may be having some problems combining TF if they're Amphib and Transport. You can't combine those.
Here's the top Air Spt units >48:

RE: RTFM questions, i know, i know.... but
i cant thank you enough truly - wouldnt have stood a chance without this.......
on a final note - im unsure whether i understand port limits and naval support properly - if i have a size 2 port and wish it to provide the services of a size 3 port - how much nav support does it need - and is it the same again for a size 4 port or does the need for nav support rise exponentially?

There's no single answer to this. It depends on what "services" of the size three port you want.
For docking space, I think the answer is simple - no amount of naval support will provide additional docking space.
For rearm capability, the table in 20.1.2.2 has the answer. A level 3 port has a rearm level of 40, and a level 2 has 25. So the difference is 15, which is 3 naval support squads (at 5 rearm points per). Similar equivalences can be found for other port sizes. However, for rearm I would suggest not trying to make a "level x port" but instead think about what ships/weapons you want to rearm there and then backing into the required number of naval squads.
For load and unload stuff, you'd have to look at the table in 6.3.3.2.4 and apply the naval support info in 6.3.3.2.5. I'm too lazy right to summarize any of that.

RE: RTFM questions, i know, i know.... but
mmm its specifically for load/unload, or at least docking capacity - i think its just something i need to get used to more than understand - i wanted to use an island that shall not be named as a staging area before moving onto the juicier target but none of my ships will be able to even approach the island - hey ho - if yamamoto couldnt do it, then neither can i!!
i take it the old system of taking construction battallions and engineers to the base to increase it in size is still the traditional way of expanding the port/airbase?
and am i right in assuming if the docking capacity is 6000 tonnes - a tk of 7250 will not be allowed to drop its fuel off here? or will it just take longer?
and..... if im actually invading the island/base i take it docking capacity has sod all to do with my invasion fleet and i can take what i want to actually get on the island?

RE: RTFM questions, i know, i know.... but
Taking CBs to an island and building port/airfield is still valid - but you have to be able to unload them first and if it's only port-1 then it will take time. For small ports some recommend using Amph TFs rather than Trans TFs. Certainly pays to allocate your AP/AKs to these tasks and stay clear of using xAP/xAK. Remember the stacking limit.
A 7250 TK will not be able to dock in a port-1 (6000/6000) so it will unload slower.
If you are invading then you are using Amph TF and going over the beach (not using the port). Take anything you want HOWEVER vehicles and large guns will not unload unless you are using the right ships. Haven't played Japan in AE so don't know what they have available.
More detailed planning is certainly required

Pompack, it is an excel spreadsheet. I stole someone else's spreadsheet and modified it. Here it is (remove the .txt):

Absolutely outstanding! Mindboggling! To whom do we offer homage [&o][&o]for this incredible time-saver?
Edit: For those who have not downloaded it, what Mike displayed was less than 5% of the total spreadsheet which seems to cover every Japanese LCU as well as providing much more information about each unit (including at-start locataion)
P.S. Eternal curses upon Vista: Instead of simply grabbing and renaming it, I had to use a work-around so complex that I don't remember what I did just to change the file type to xls; renaming in Vista doesn't change the file type, and when you try to change the file type it only offers you choices based upon the current filetype (which seems fairly useless to me).

Are there any useful spread sheets for Allies? I see alot of threads for Japanese, but it doesnt seem there is alot on Allies. I am assuming that the Japanese must be a bit more challenging to play, so maybe that is the reason.

If you are invading an enemy base, use your LSD's, AK's, AKA's, AP's and APA's in the amphibious TF. If you use xAP's or worse, xAK's or xAKL's, they'll unload VERY slowly. I think the Japanese has a bonus unloading ability for some of their xAK's but they'll still unload slower than an AP or AK or specialized landing ship.
