Best altitude for Torpedo Bombers?

Post by DoomedMantis »

Whats the best altitude for torpedo bombers? If I have them at 100 feet they straff and use 500kg bombs rather than torpedoes, and if I have them at 6000ft then they are ineffectual. Is they altitude there cruising alt or just the alt that they attack from?

Torpedo bombers (as long as they aren't set to 100ft which = strafing runs) will fly at whatever altitude you set for the "approach" part of the flak phase, then dive down to sea level to launch torpedoes during the attack part (200ft IIRC) before climbing back up to whatever altitude it was you set for the "flying away" part of the flak phase.

So basically the higher you set it, the less flak they cop before and after they launch, although there are probably plane performance issues here.
