Dixie, any ETA on your RN carriers? If you've done anything on them can we have a look? Thanks.

OK, here's a small preview.

The early war RN carriers have been uploaded:

Here

The pack has art for Illustrious, Indomitable and Hermes. There will also shortly be an alternative file uploaded for the Illustrious CVs, using Formidable instead of Illustrious.

They do look great. Unfortunately, he may be busy learning stuff for a while.

Yeah, I'm on a 7 week course so time may be limited. I'm slowly plodding through the RN destroyers at the moment and I've got a couple of surprises for the JFBs out there...[;)]

Seeable Si, Camo No.

[:'(] Old eyes? [:D]

Old everything. The purpose of camo is to make the ship hard to recognize. Works very well in small bmps.

For example (below) you can't see the detail on this - or recognize the class?

Much as I respect Dixie's artistic ability, I prefer non-camo. I want detail, not blurritude.

Get a high pixel size screen and the blurring will go away. But seriously put with proper shading Dixie's stuff is really awesome and gives a good bit of detail.

A small suggestion for the artists. Understand the desire for camo. There is some camo in the base AE art. Also understand the desire to retain detail. It's personal preference.

My personal issue, and it’s a purely artistic one, is not with camo, per se. I don’t mind the shapes and colors, but the intensity and contrast of the patterns do indeed obscure topside detail. The eye is sensitive, especially in the 200 x 60 pixel window within which the whole is displayed.

Paint.net is a nice tool. Using paint.net, one can develop a camo pattern on a separate layer for any ship. Run base saturation to zip, and overlay, and all the colors and contrast appear. One can then select those areas that correspond to the ship’s topsides, and adjust the “transparency” (suggest 40-60%). That way, the camo scheme remains uniform, but you don’t have a big, black, blotch obscuring topside details. It’s just a visual, perceptual detail.

Just a suggestion. Can talk further by pm if anybody wants.

I went to his page, the art looks great, but I am leery of getting it because I am not sure if it works with AE or not.  It seems to be more geared to WitP or Orange.

Some of it is specifically designed for AE. At the moment it's a selection of RN ships, the ones marked updated for AE from the navigation page. I'm not sure how many of the original WitP art will be numbered correctly for AE.

It's been a while, but a new update is in the works. Whilst I'm still working on the RN destroyers and corvettes I've also worked out a variety of merchies. Mostly those based on US MAritime Commision hulls but a few Japanese types and USN auxiliaries, mostly in simple camo schemes.
