Screen Capturing & Exporting Game Data

Post by wg335910 »

Is there anyway to screen capture some of the unit database reports. Also, is it possible to export any of the game data onto EXCEL or ACCESS? Thanks

You can export all the data in the scenario to .CSV format with witploadae, which is is in the SCEN folder.  It's a console (like DOS) program.  You can't export anything from the save file, except via the technique used for WitPStaff.  If you are looking for the data that is in the database screens, exporting the scenario to Excel is what you want to do.

There are many ways to make screen captures.  One is built into Windows, but it is a bit awkward.  Hold down CRTL and press the Print Scrn button.  This puts a snapshot of the screen into the clipboard.  You will have to open a graphics program like Paintbrush and paste the image in there.

On my development computer I use an open source screen capture program which I think is called ZScreen.  It has a few modes and is generally more flexible than the built in Windows technique.  I know others here swear by other screen capture programs.

Actually, I don't think Staff does all the LCU data, Tracker does ... it also has CSV export [;)]

As I read your reply, what I gathered was that witploadAE is an editor that will extract the save game data and export it as a CSV file. It is used the DOS command line. What I am confused about is syntax used to make it work. I tried it last weekend without luck. I rummaged around the various foldders to see if there was a README file for it but I didn't find any. There must be something simple that I over looking. Any information on witploadae, would be of great help. Thanks

type witploadae /? and it will give you a list of switches to use. To extract scenario 1 use witploadae /s1 /e
