Great game but map errors

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Great game but map errors

Post by OttoVonBlotto »

Great game I have only just downloaded it and started to play a one day BoB battle, it reminds me of an old title I used to play on my specy 128k many years ago but I have a few map corrections for you, I live right next to the Shoreham airport on the south east coast of England and it is in the wrong position in relation to Portslade and Brighton. It should be (east to west) Brighton Area, Brighton Power, Portslade then Shoreham, not the other way round as it is the game, I will try and sort out a google map to show what I mean later.

Still may old pillboxes and other hangovers from the war around here, my house was built on the outskirts of Shoreham airport by Canadian aircrew working at airport in 1937, Shoreham airport hosts a Battle of Britain airshow every year which is very cool to watch from my garden, lots of spit's and hurricanes a ME108 and 109 + B17 and a Lancaster, great to see close up.

Also RAF Northolt is out of place it should be more south and east a lot of my relatives lived around it my mum and dad grew up within 5 miles of it (my grandmother worked there) and I drive past it a lot going to visit people. I always am always emotional when I go past it, thinking of the Polish pilots that made the legend of the few and are never normally recognised by the British population.

The positioning of features on the map had to be a compromise, especially in those areas of the map that got more congested as additional targets were added. In addition we were working with an existing map, with its own inherent peculiarities. Near the end of the process, once there was nothing else to be added, I considered a scheme to use Multimap to pinpoint every single feature and so recalibrate the whole thing from scratch. Given that the artwork had already been finished by then I didn't think HS would have been best pleased with my suggestion, so I kept quiet about it - and apparently we were running a bit short of time by then [:)]

there are going to be mistakes, or misplacements, everything is not grid coded on a map someplace that matches the game map

things that are wrong, that can be corrected or fixed, I will try to do, some, are wrong, because that is the best we could do, others are best guess

if we can get solid info on placement, I will try and get it corrected

No worries [8D] I know it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things but being local to the area I thought I would just let you know Image

Neat Airshow this year, it was very nice to see the Vulcan rumbling over it set off all the car alarms Saturday as did the Eurofighter but was more subdued on Sunday.

I am getting into the Bob game a lot working out how it all goes before I start on Btr maybe when I'm up to speed we should start an PBEM game?
