The manual neglected to mention that you need to turn on that "feature" using the editor for the replacements to appear.

The manual neglected to mention that you need to turn on that "feature" using the editor for the replacements to appear.

The scenario designer needs to do that. If you want to play a standard scenario with replacements, you have to use the editor on the scenario and save it to a new slot.

Jonathan- Two comments:

1. In my scen.6 game, Saratoga was sunk Jan. 1, 42. If I look in the Ship availability screen, for CVs, there was a slot for Hornet II on 21 July, 43. This is the same time frame-18 months- that's in WITP. There are further slots with other Allied CVs with II after their name. FYI, I changed the Hornet to Saratoga. I don't know if this is a result of the game or whether it was "built into" the game.

In the CA/CL there are other CA/CL replacements with II after their names.

2. If one does have to "turn on " this feature using the Editor, what are the 1,2,3s... of how to do this?

Thanks, Hugh Browne

To "turn on" this feature, you basically have to create an entirely new scenario using the same data from an original scenario but with the only change being the ship replacement feature being turned on.  I haven't done this myself so I don't know where exactly in the editor to find the replacement feature.

In your game, did you check if there was a slot for the Hornet II before the Saratoga was sunk? It should have been there before too.

I took a look at the ship reinforcement schedule for the Dec. 8 scenario and I saw the Hornet II listed for March 1944. If it can change to July 1943 then maybe there's some kind of code that accelerates carrier arrival based on carrier sinkings. I had fixed reinforcements turned on. I don't think this is a FOW issue, haven't heard of reinforcement arrival times being deliberately fogged up. Or maybe there's an issue with the program switching the Hornet II for the Yorktown II which is supposed to arrive on July 21 1943.

Hi,

If you open a scenario in the editor and click on the Scenario tab there is a small box at the bottom of the data which says "Use Respawn". I would guess that is the one to mark.
The Manual for the editor is missing a bit of text in this area unfortunately. At the bottom of page 50 (chapter 4.1 Scenario options) there's a sentence: "Use re-spawn to allow"

That's it[:(]

BPRE-My problem is getting the editor to open. I can get to the editor, to the screen that shows an Essex CV in the background of a cruiser with open hanger, with the various commands( Pilot, Scenario, etc.) in the top bar.

I put the mouse over a choice, scenaeio, say, and it highlights it, then click and nothing happens. Same on other buttons(Pilot, etc.)

I can get to the editor either way, through the opening AE screen or from Programs, AE, etc.

I've tried this on 2 separate computers. Ideas, anyone?

Thanks, Hugh Browne

Try opening a scenario first.

BigJ62-I can't open a scenario using the editor- I've tried several times. When I put the mouse over one of the tabs, scernario, say, it is highlighted, but when I click on it nothing happens. Right clicking does nothing.

I've tried opening a scenario in Editor from the opening AE menu, as well as Editor by going to start, AE & clicking editor there.

If I open a scenario using the AE menu, it goes to the game.

So, what next, people? HB

You need to first click on "file" then on "open scenario" when that option becomes visible.

Jonathan-I sorry to be such a klutz, but when you don't know, you don't know.

OK, I've got to the place in the scenario where it has a box"Use respawn". Fine. I put a check mark in that box and tried to close. Pop up says "changes have been made. Save?" I hit save, then tried to close out.

Another pop-up appears saying"AE reserves slots 1-25. Save in a higher slot." Fine- How?
Thanks, HB

After checking respawn, I would hit file and then click on "save scenario as."  You should get a popup, in that popup highlight 26 or higher by clicking on that number. A green bar at the bottom of the popup should allow you to change the scenario name from "none" to whatever name you want. After that, click on the load/save button.
