String the B-17 are unrestricted, the P40 are restricted. IRL the B-17 moved to Australia and Java.
Alfred begging will get you everywhere... plus my folks live at Narooma, and I like Bega cheese, so we will defend nth of Bega, maybe Batemans bay (used to surf a lot in the area).

23-34 Jan 1942 Missed opportunities...
Another two days of full on action, but first our missed opportunities for the turn
Sub attack near Saigon at 60,73
Japanese Ships
DD Sanae
DD Hakaze
Allied Ships
SS KXVII
Sub attack near Davao at 80,92
Japanese Ships
CA Kako
DD Yuzuki, heavy damage
DD Kikuzuki, heavy damage
Allied Ships
SS KXVI
ASW attack near Kuching at 58,88
Japanese Ships
DD Hatakaze
DD Harukaze
Sub attack near Kendari at 70,106
Japanese Ships
CL Katori
DD Yugure
Allied Ships
SS KXVIII
Sub attack near Kuching at 58,88
Japanese Ships
AO Tsurumi
AO Notoro
SC Ch 9
APD Aoi
Allied Ships
SS O19
Burma
The rear guard is destroyed, but it causes a few more days delay.
Malaya
All the mainland is now Japanese. It will take them a few days to gather everything they need. I expect Singapore to fall around 6 Feb. Anything later is a definate bonus!
Sumatra
They are getting real desperate here, flying in supplies (which were roughly handled by the FLAK) sending in more troops via FT TF (1 DD has badly hit, and two more lightly). And bombing with Netties. On day one they try a shock attack...
Ground combat at Palembang (48,91)
Japanese Shock attack
Attacking force 4375 troops, 62 guns, 13 vehicles, Assault Value = 125
Defending force 3749 troops, 61 guns, 5 vehicles, Assault Value = 59
Japanese adjusted assault: 40
Allied adjusted defense: 55
Japanese assault odds: 1 to 2 (fort level 2)
Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), leaders(-), experience(-)
Attacker: shock(+), disruption(-), fatigue(-)
Japanese ground losses:
281 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 25 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 7 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Allied ground losses:
158 casualties reported
Squads: 3 destroyed, 6 disabled
Non Combat: 10 destroyed, 7 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Assaulting units:
21st Ind.Mixed Brigade
Sasebo 3rd SNLF
1st Raiding Rgt /1
Defending units:
Zuid KNIL Battalion
So.Sumatra Garrison Battalion
Singkawang Base Force
Sambas Base Force
Pontianak Base Force
Djambi Base Force
Palembang Base Force
22nd Indian Mountain Gun Regiment
So Palembang will continue to hold.
In order to absorb our airpower they have parked a SCTF with 2 BB's and at least 1 CA. The air from Batavia and Singapore focussed here to little effect... but that may change in the next turn as the AA fire is slacking. Even with this small packets of aircraft attack other ships in the area, to no effect. There are a few zero fying LRCAP that intervere with our air attacks.
Java
Malang reaches lvl3 forts. It will be our last bastion.
Phillipines
Lots of bombarding, we do better casuing large numbers of casualties at Clark. We now have almost 1200AV against around 400. Next turn we will shock attack!
East DEI
KB flys against Lautum, B17 from Darwin do good as well. But 4 days of KB makes all the difference as on day one we hold against the shock attack.... just, but on day two they finally take the base.
This has probably been much harder than they ever expected, and has tied (and tired) KB. Now they have to take Koepang, defended by two Indian Bdes! with only one fresh third of a Div, and one battered third they will need more force... and they still have to take Ambon as well.
SWPAC
Buna is finally taken, our light strike aircraft (A-24) roam the area at will gaining nice levels of experiance in the process.
Cheers

Analysis
Lautum performed beyond expectations slowing the enemy and forcing them to commit CV based airpower (which isn't that effective and slowly attrites the units). It would have been nice to hold a few days longer
Koepang will be a tough nut as well. We will move subs into the area. It will require Bombardment TF and probably KB.
Tying KB to this area is very nice, I expect they have further plans in the SWPAC and SOPAC, which they can't do until KB is in support.
We will soon move in force into NORPAC. Every Island forward here is a bonus, but only if we can defend it.
In Oz the Australian units from the south are at Katherine. This now makes the area secure. With plenty of supply and fuel this will become a nice forward base... with three Brit bdes, and some deployable Aussie forces some offensive action against Timor should be possible in the August timeframe...
Cheers

Well I've issued orders... my main area of interest is Clark. I have listed the units in the screenshot below. I went through and improved leaders so that the best the Philippines army has to offer is here. My biggest concern is preparation, as you can see most are prepping for Manila, but a few good units are 100% prepped for Clark. He has the choice of prepping for Clark, manila or Bataan so he probably isn't in as good a shape. I'm happy I have concentrated everything I can. Last turn I strafed with fighters (against light Zero opposition) and I will do so again. The arty is bombarding.
My only other concern is supply, the units are a bit under, hopefully they will fill before the battle. I almost considered brining in some bombers...
Nik and Joe have taken a chance with the "blockade in the Philippines approach" through a bit of luck, good management and them splitting their forces we have managed to hold them, now we have the best chance of forcing them to retire, and then freeing the Philippines from the invader (according to MacArthur that is!).

The Japanese Fleet
This screen shot shows where the bulk of the fleet is, less those sunk (a few!) or damaged (a lot more).
Knowing this is alowing us to move in NORPAC, and reinforce Darwin (now 70+ P40, Lvl 7 airfield 250 airsupport, around 700 AV).
Reinforce PM (5000 more supply being loaded) with air units (need more airsupport though) and soon the 8th Marines.

jrcar,
1. Have you noticed any experience gains for the Dutch units continuing to hold Palembang. As they seen to be suffering only small casualties I would expect them to be rapidly gaining experience.
2. Based on your experience to date with Allied units whose adjusted assault value is impacted by [(-) experience], how long do you think such a modifier would generally remain.
3. Might it not be worthwhile to airlift just one small/fraction of Dutch unit from Batavia into Palembang. I suspect that the presence of a few additional Ass Val at Palembang will do more damage to the Japanese timetable (and morale) than if used at Batavia against what is already a powerful field army already landed on Java.
I am starting to realise that I will not have to do any begging. A good old fashioned bribe (oops...meant marketing sample) of northern products should seal the deed.

Quick news,
the attack at Clark goes like this:
Ground combat at Clark Field (79,76)
Allied Shock attack
Attacking force 33078 troops, 442 guns, 487 vehicles, Assault Value = 1139
Defending force 23680 troops, 265 guns, 148 vehicles, Assault Value = 475
Allied adjusted assault: 915
Japanese adjusted defense: 1207
Allied assault odds: 1 to 2
Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), leaders(+)
Attacker: shock(+), disruption(-)
Japanese ground losses:
2248 casualties reported
Squads: 22 destroyed, 144 disabled
Non Combat: 24 destroyed, 121 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 45 disabled
Guns lost 3 (1 destroyed, 2 disabled)
Vehicles lost 18 (1 destroyed, 17 disabled)
Allied ground losses:
1305 casualties reported
Squads: 7 destroyed, 136 disabled
Non Combat: 8 destroyed, 123 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 10 disabled
Vehicles lost 62 (5 destroyed, 57 disabled)
Assaulting units:
1st PA Constabulary Regiment
192nd Tank Battalion
4th PA Constabulary Regiment
31st Infantry Regiment
26th PS Cavalry Regiment
194th Tank Battalion
57th PS Infantry Regimental Combat Team
71st PA Infantry Division

Subic Bay Defenses
11th PA Infantry Division
4th Marine Regiment
2nd PA Constblry HW Regiment
88th PS Field Artillery Regiment
Provisional Field Artillery Regiment
Clark Field USAAF Base Force
200th & 515th Coast AA Regiment
301st Construction Battalion
301st PA Field Artillery Regiment
Defending units:
1st Formosa Inf. Regiment
48th Engineer Regiment
9th Infantry Regiment
Kanno Detachment
47th Infantry Regiment
20th Infantry Regiment
48th Field Artillery Regiment
8th Medium Field Artillery Regiment
1st Medium Field Artillery Regiment
14th Army
9th Ind.Hvy.Art. Battalion
15th Ind.Art.Mortar Battalion
Not what I was expecting. It looks like a strong bombardment attack by the Japanese caused a lot of disruption and broke up the attack... the good news is we appear to have caused a lot of killed and disabled units. The question is now what to do... keep attack (hoping for a better die roll, or go around the flank as I originally planned...
Cheers

The IJN CV's had a couple of close calls over the two days, including several sub attacks (that all missed...) This would have had their hearts fluttering though:

Palambang saw no real action, we are flying out key forces, and bombing the beach head. They are LRCAPing and loose 1-3 Zero in the process.
In China one day we go down 2:1 at Nanyang, they next we hold comfortably... you never now what will happen with the random number generator which is the land model!. Regardless it will fall soon, and elsewhere they Japanese move forward... not much we can do
Fresh forces land at Dili, and find a fairly stout defence. We hit the forces at Lautum with B-17 and Marauder from Darwin causing moderate damage. All the CV's are at Kendari and aren't LRCAPing, we may get a few more licks in depending on the fguel they have.
We have some ineresting sightings of ships near Midway, maybe this is where all the SNLF have gone... we may be able to get a CV in to help, but regardless we will pull out a cadre. Midway hasn't been reinforced at all, its loss will give us a practise location
Cheers

RE: Aussies vs Amis - World Defence(no Joe or Nik)
OK, Rob has finally forced me into the open (dammed sneaky Intelligence types, no flair, dash or elan in those fellows!). Actually Rob is an outstanding player whose calm practical nature balances my more 'impetuous' moments. He is an excellent partner and we seem to work well together.
China - A bloody mess. Our opponents tactics of buying all the artillery out of Manchuria is killing me in China; legal tactic but with the game engine rating arty the way it does, it is a real killer. With lttle to no supply the chinese are just speed bumps. My tactic will remain defensive with lots of small units continually trying to get into his rear areas. May launch an offensive in the centre south towards his coastal cities eventually. Have used AVG for some good ambush's and my small bomber force keeps him honest.
Burma - I have chosen Mityanka (spelling?) as my stand (with Warzup also manned behaind it). I have avoided the usual choices of complete retreat to India, Shwebo or Mandalay for the following reasons. It is at the end of a long jungle trail in rough/jungle terrain. It is able to draw limited supplies overland from India, it still gives me a jumping off point this side of the Indian border with at least two axis's of future advance. Allied air can come into play from multiple airfields and cause havoc on the long japanese approach route, by the time he gets there it should have a level 3 afld and perhaps level 4 forts; he will need a lot of force to take it down - and when that force is waaaay up that trail I will start probing towards middle Burma from the coast bases of Akyab etc.
Malaya - Will hold as long as possible, fairly happy with what I have done there. Aim is to last longer than historically, also I have saved a cadre from most units which I have successfully evacuated.
DEI - Not seeing any real increase in experience for the Dutch at Palembang (in answer to Alfreds questions), suspect they are dying too fast. Also very hard to airlift more into Palembang as he is LRCAPing the hex. Will hold as long as possible and irritate him where possible. In Java I will make my stands at Batavia and Malang. We may use allied CV air to give him a nasty surprise for a turn or two then evac them.
Summary - I am fairly happy where we are and we are broadly planning to wage an attritional air and land war in the Burma theatre while thrusting into his heartlands from Darwin. Feints, probes, holds, and targets of opportunity elsewhere. Also pondering a "Doolittle" style raid in the North.
Regards,
Tony

RE: Aussies vs Amis - World Defence(no Joe or Nik)
tony luke and jrcar,
Thanks guys for your comments. I am not reading your opponents' AAR thus I am totally reliant upon yours' for info regarding the state of affairs.
Generally speaking, I concur with your assessments. A couple of comments follow, just to provide a sounding board/mirror for your own internal discussions.
1. Burma approach is quite valid. Just don't forget to garrison Cox's Bazaar otherwise you might not be able to spring out of the Akyab.
2. A "Doolittle" style raid is interesting. I see three possible executions - one of no real materiel value, one of tactical value (but substantial danger for the Allied units involved) and one of potentially great strategic benefit. These three executions are:
(a) a raid out of the Aleutians into the Kuriles, hoping to catch some exposed northern enemy shipping/bases whilst the KB is around Timor/Sumba/Arafura seas. This operation imposes the least risk because you are unlikely to meet strong enemy LBA and weather conditions will help to mask approach and escape. As to its value, well the enemy can largely disregard it.
(b) a hit and run raid out of Alaska/Hawaii to target enemy infrastucture on Hokkadio/Honshu. Against a lazy Japanese defense, great damage could be inflicted and a Japanese reaction would ensue (eg upgrading home defense assets etc). Against an alert home defense, the raid could be subjected to murderous return fire. Overall, probably a very worthwhile raid provided it is well executed.
(c) the third option is one that may be has not yet registered onto your radar. Rather than hit the Home Islands, I would suggest that you hit the SLOCs between Honshu and Truk/Mandated Territories - but the hit comes from the Japanese internal lines. For example, sail from the Aleutians south west to strike the Bonins from their west and escape via north, not east towards Hawaii. The point being to encourage the KB to hunt you down in the most likely escape route which would be towards Allied airpower in Hawaii. The benefit to you being that (i) you get a chance to use LBA/submarine screens to inflict serious losses on KB, or at the very least inflict wear and tear on the KB, and (ii) reduce enemy offensive power into the still unconquered DEI.
I have run out of time to elaborate any further on the bare bones of the above. Besides which I don't come from that far north where we have to make our marks with XXXX[:D]. No I come from where we produce (and would be prepared to export to you southerners) such fine beverages as Cakenback (from the Snowy Mountains) and Flying Pigs (from Bowral)[:)]

RE: Aussies vs Amis - World Defence(no Joe or Nik)
Alfred funny you should mention that...
a few days ago Tony and I discussed options, one being a raid around Marcus Is... I deceided to play safe though and support forces in the NORPAC..
Then we recieved a sighting report of 9 ships near Midway, thinking they were maybe gambling on a raid with the missing SNLF we have dispatched a CV to the area... if it is a false alarm, which it probably is, the CV is nicely positioned to do the raid...
The problem is KB is now retiring from the east DEI... see the next few posts.
Sounds like you are Canberra based (or close?) spent 6 years there and that is where Tony is.
Cheers

Burma
Pegu falls. Our forces finish up dropping off supply and loading fuel. Most of our forces are inland. Battalion rearguards will be left on the inland approaches to slow the enemy.
Malaya
Looks like more air units have been committed. Raids have gone from around 100 sally to 140. Damage is light and is being repaired.
Sumatra
Another FT TF comes into Palembang, and is roughly handled:
Pre-Invasion action off Palembang - Coastal Guns Fire Back!
43 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.
Japanese Ships
CL Natori, Shell hits 1
CL Jintsu
CL Sendai
DD Minazuki, Shell hits 3, on fire
DD Uranami, Shell hits 7, heavy fires
DD Isonami
Japanese ground losses:
84 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 5 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 1 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Guns lost 1 (0 destroyed, 1 disabled)
Invasion Support action off Palembang - Coastal Guns Fire Back!
Defensive Guns fire at approaching troops in landing craft
22 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.
Japanese Ships
CL Natori
CL Jintsu, Shell hits 4
CL Sendai, Shell hits 1
DD Hatakaze, Shell hits 1, on fire
DD Isonami
DD Satsuki
A good outcome!
Phillipines
We try another shock attack at Clark:
Ground combat at Clark Field (79,76)
Allied Shock attack
Attacking force 30287 troops, 440 guns, 460 vehicles, Assault Value = 960
Defending force 24382 troops, 266 guns, 147 vehicles, Assault Value = 495
Allied adjusted assault: 302
Japanese adjusted defense: 1096
Allied assault odds: 1 to 3
Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), leaders(+), fatigue(-)
Attacker: shock(+), disruption(-)
Japanese ground losses:
2236 casualties reported
Squads: 6 destroyed, 104 disabled
Non Combat: 9 destroyed, 100 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 13 disabled
Guns lost 1 (0 destroyed, 1 disabled)
Vehicles lost 11 (2 destroyed, 9 disabled)
Allied ground losses:
629 casualties reported
Squads: 6 destroyed, 118 disabled
Non Combat: 17 destroyed, 145 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 5 disabled
Vehicles lost 102 (15 destroyed, 87 disabled)
Again the result is disappointing, but we do appear to kill a lot of Japanese. I'm now moving a unit into the enemy's rear while we rest.
Manila should be at lvl 4 forts now. We have the industry working flat out. I have also begun to probe south, now at lucea. We need resources for the industry, and it looks like the Japanese only have one unit blocking a base with resources...
East DEI
Lots of air action over Dili. I have move a P-40 to Koepang to provide some escorts for aircraft (B-17 and B-26) operating from Darwin. I also LRCAP Dili. The Japanese focus their fighters on hunting PT boats, and send a lot of unescorted flights to Dili. My fighters don't do that well, probably splashing 2-3 Netties and 5-10 kates.
With the heavy disruption caused by the CV aircraft the defenders of Dili give up and are forced into the Jungle. was hoping for more delay... ah well.
KB is now heading Nth from the area (low on fuel, going to support ops in the SWPAC/SOPAC?) but mini KB is hanging around (most of the Kates were from Mini KP).
Without KB taking Koepang will be very difficult, plus I have a CV in the area... with another coming "soon".
SWPAC
My planes operating out of PM make hit Lae and Buna, gaining experience!
China
We have halted the Japanese at Nanyang for the moment, but the arty is slowly (actually quickly!) killing us in a few places... at best we can be a roadblock. This is still a tough theatre if the Japanese buy out arty.... But the more they attack, the more supply they use.
Midway
Despite a sighting in the area of ships nothing is seen, a CV is on the way though... just in case!
Sigint
Nothing useful... still curious on where the SNLF are...
Analysis
KB leaving the East DEI wil now cause us some issues... where is it going and why... My bet is to support an attack on Port Moresby, but the SOPAC or Midway are possible as well.
It opens up an opportunity for us against mini KB, 2 US CV and 2 Brit should be operating in the area within 3 weeks... fuel is our problem.
With some marine aviation in Australia I'm tempted to release some P-40 to Tony to use in the DEI (which is what historically happened). Will see what I can do out of Koepang first
Cheers

Subs
Reasonable results this turn with O21 putting two torps into DD Uranami off Palembang and KXVI putting two into xAK Izan Maru off Davao. But others miss
and our subs around Timor get hit while trying to get into attack positions against Japanese SCTF.
Burma
No Change.
Malaya
Air attacks on Singapore continue. Little effect and the damage is cleared up quickly.
Sumatra
Palembang continue to be the focus. We have moved up a single US CV on the far side, but as no Japanese reinforcements come into Palembang over the two days nothing sorties... But it looks like 1-2 groups are forming for a run in so we will take the risk and keep the CV's there...
On the ground we bombard, and the Japanese (probably out of supply) sit and take it. We don't have the strength to kick them out, and they need more force.
In the air we launch some strong raids well protected by fighters against light enemy air opposition (1 zero, 2 Oscar) we still loose, but continue to hammer the Japanese ground troops.
East DEI
We send air against shipping but achieve no effect for slight loss... not really a good outcome. Mini KB appears to have retired fro the area as well.
Philippines
The Japanese bombard us at Clark and Cabuantan. We are advancing south though, and I'm sending a unit to Lingayen to try and cause issues in their rear area...
SWPAC
No change, we continue to hit the Japanese from the air against no opposition... I expect that to change soon.
China
We hold at Hankow and Chuhsien, but loose Nanyang. We are in trouble in the central north battle area
Anaylsis
Palembang holding has been great for us, as it has fixed the enemy where we can hit from multiple sides... if only we had more combat troops.
I'm really concerned about my CV... but the risk is worth it... I hope!
Expecting KB to show up in the SWPAC in about 4-8 more days.
I expect Mini KB is moving to support invasions of Tarakan area.
We have a second CV moving to Perth in 4 days.

The CV ambush works! As usual Palamebang is the centre of attention.
At Long range on Day one we hit the surface covering force which has 2 BB's and 1 CA covering the approach into Palembang:
Morning Air attack on TF, near Muntok at 50,90
Weather in hex: Heavy rain
Raid spotted at 38 NM, estimated altitude 16,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 17 minutes
Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 1
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 2
Allied aircraft
SBD-2 Dauntless x 32
No Japanese losses
Allied aircraft losses
SBD-2 Dauntless: 1 destroyed, 15 damaged
Japanese Ships
BB Kongo
BB Haruna, Bomb hits 2
Java based Dutch units also attack in mass but achieve no hits. They show that the Haruna has small fires.
On day 2, and as expected, a FTF TF comes in with reinforcements to Palembang:
37 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.
Japanese Ships
CL Kiso
CL Natori
CL Jintsu
CL Sendai
DD Hatakaze, Shell hits 2
DD Harukaze, Shell hits 1, on fire
DD Kamikaze, Shell hits 3, on fire

Then the CV planes then make their attack passes
Weather in hex: Clear sky
Raid spotted at 20 NM, estimated altitude 15,000 feet.

31 Jan 1 Feb rest of the game
Burma
No Change
Malaya
Heavy air attacks again, but they Japanese aircraft are taking losses. Damage is starting to accumulate and we are continuing to pull out key bits.
Sumatra
Covered above. very happy
East DEI
Our aircraft continue to sortie against shipping between Timor and Kendari to no effect. Our subs also aren't having a lot of luck. The Japanese are consolidating and probably preparing to tackle Koepang. We have P-40 operating from Koepang and some hudsons, as well as aircraft from Darwin.
Philipines
We have forces at Clark, Cabuatan and now Lingayen. I plan to move another units to Ligayen as I'm at 1:1 now, and won't take a lot to push to 2:1... Our P-40 rule the skies against light (Nate) opposition. There are indications of fresh troops advancing down from the north so our time in the sun here will probably soon be over. manial remains untouched and is producing supply, but we are short on resources. We have gone to gather some of the later...
Australia
No real change. The second CV is ready to move to Perth. A lot of ships have gone i for the Ferb 42 refit.
SWPAC
Our planes at PM continue to pound the Japanese at Lae. I doubt this will last much longer. PM just got to level 3 and has about 240 AV so it will take a major attack to dislodge, but if they commit it will fall.
Pacific
Reports of Japanese ships near Midway have been proven to be false. We may make that CV raid in towards Marcus Is once we know KB is commited in the SWPAC.
NORPAC
Forces and supply coming in, not ready to move anywhere yet.
Cheers
Rob

RE: Aussies vs Amis - World Defence(no Joe or Nik)
Observations and thoughts
Burma
We are well set here. Tony and I have learned a lot from the game we are playing against each other, which is at April. I suspect they would like to go for Ceylon but the loss of all their ships so far probably makes it unviable.
I expect this theatre to really kick off soon... but every day of delay is good for us.
Malaya
They have played best here and have done well... except for allowing Singapore to get to level 4 forts. I prefer to supress it earlier, and suffer the aircraft wastage. They have obviously made the decision not to waste their aircraft, but will suffer a harder fight. Once they concentrate though I doubt we can delay them much.
Sumatra
What can I say? Their attack on Palembang was rash, and we have now kicked well 3 times.
East DEI
Our strategy is causing nice delay here. Koepang will be a moderate nut to crack.
Kendari now has a lot of Netties stationed there. Our surface units are not safe (and our subs are being molested as well by the search aircraft)
Philippines
We are hurting them here, they haven't deployed enough force, but it looks like more is on the way. It is a tough call for us now to see how long we stay out of Manila... every day counts. The biggest risk is if they win a battle at Clark our forces may retire on Bataan, rather than Manila...
We may actually get to see this last until near historic timelines!
Davao appears to be the main forward operating base. We have seen (and hit) a lot of ships going in and out with subs.
Impact Of Losses
The loss/damage of 4-6 Cl, the loss/damage of 4-6 CA's, the loss of AP's and finally the loss/damage to the DD fleet has robbed Joe and Nik of the real ability to conduct operations in more than one theatre. While both KB and Mini KB are untouched they are desperately needed in at least 3 areas now (Palembang. east DEI, SWPAC) just to maintain their current plans, let alone execute anything new. Without KB or mini KB they run the risk of us trashing another invasion fleet with surface combatants, a risk they can't really afford.
Likely Enemy Intentions
Palembang. They are in a world of hurt here... but maybe they got enough supply and troops ashore to take the place... if they haven't then the only way they can proceed is with KB in support, or to take Singapore.
This leads to the SWPAC... they can advance here but only with KB support... which leads to:
What will they do with KB? Our estimate is that they will commit KB to the SWPAC and Mini KB to the East DEI (Koepang attack).
Own Plans
Dismount CV aircraft to support Palembang. P-40 also moving into Java... they could go to Singapore if the opportunity arrose (currently the 120+ Sally are escorted by about 30+ Oscar).
Concentrate a second US Cv and a Brit CV in the IO in order to attack mini KB. Need more fuel.
Conduct a CV raid against the IJN convoys in the vicinity of Marcus Is once the location of KB is established.
After the raid conduct offensive operations in the NORPAC supported by a CV once the weather improves (March/april?).
China. Try to hold and harass where possible....
We have now won a serious of tactical engagements that are now having an operational effect. We may be able to turn the operational effect into a victory, which will have a strategic effect...
The war could be over by Christmas!
Cheers
Rob

Cheers

RE: Aussies vs Amis - World Defence(no Joe or Nik)
Just a thought which you may well feel is inappropriate. I do very much like the cold analytical approach, based on hard ascertainable concrete facts you guys operate on. Let me guess, one of you guys worked in military intel[:D].
Ordinarily, at this stage of the campaign, I would not factor this as an option, but in view of the dealy you have inflicted upon the enemy at Palembang and the maintenance of the Allied position at Timor/Ambon, maybe this is worthwhile.
Provided you have sufficient supplies and engineers and ultimately av support, it may be worthwhile to start building up the dot base one hex south of Darwin into a viable airbase. This would allow you to:
1. provide a fall back position for your Darwin LCU defenders in the event the enemy eventually gets around to invading northern Australia
2. allow you to disperse your airforce away from shore bombardment
3. allow stockpiling of supplies away from a coastal hex, again with the idea of mitigating against the effect of shore/KB attack
Normally the attempt to hold northern Australia is merely a pipedream, but in your case, as the timetable for the conquest of the DEI must be seriously behind schedule, there may be Allied possibilities not normally available. Hence I would keep that thought at the back of my mind.
