Help with JTCS

Post by K K Rossokolski »

A couple of days ago, I unloaded JTCS. This caused me some difficulty, but with the help of fellow Blitzers, I was able to clear it out. Using my CD, I was able to reinstall the basic game. I have tried to upgrade to V1.04 from the Matrix site...which I had before...but no result. It appears from the game that the new versions have not uploaded. Can anyone here help me, please

Cheers

Been following your posts at the blitz but I cannot log in there.

Your CD may already be 1.04 but you said you are lacking some 1.04 units. If you downloaded the update, it should be in a zip. Inside the zip is an installer file. Extract that file somewhere like your desktop. Run the installer.

My CD was bought very early on. I am sure the 1.04 patch has not downloaded as there are only the old original 4 rules options, as opposed to the 6 I should have. I just cant see from the Matrix site whether the download is going in or not...usually a special window coes up

Certainly no zip files that I can see

IF this worked, play Rising Sun, play any battle. I picked the first tutorial. Once you are at the map, press M for the top menu if necessary, then click Help, then from the dropdown, About...

It should pop up a window with version 1.04 stated in the text.

We were posting at the same time. Did you click the Update link on your JTCS on screen menu? You may have a Windows registry entry that thinks you already have 1.04

If so, you need to download the update from the members area or Patches and Scrolls (or maybe the blitz) then run the exe inside the zip as I stated above.

Yes...I found that, and it does appear to be doing something. I don't know shit from clay when it comes to computers, but I know when something is poorly done. I have a brown window with a little message saying it's downloading, that the time remaining is 0.00 something or others, hours and minutes??, mins and secs?? light years and quarks??and that the transfer rate is (varying all the time, but around 50)kB/sec. This has been going for an hour or so. Not very helpful really...an idea of the total size would be useful. If I know the total size is 465739284.2376894 gorgaquoks, and I'm loading at 23.92673 filoblorts /zikle, I can work out how long it will take....X minutes, Y hours, Z days, weeks, years. Who can tell? If I went by the time remaining, it's finished.
I intend to raise this with matrix in a formal sense. Not good enough. In the meantime, VMT your help, J2D. Take care

Another thought. When I download from Matrix's ftp I know it's not a virus. I turn off my antivirus first. Then I use an ftp manager like Coffee Cup freeware.

I think Scud has you fixed, or your game anyway.

For future generations, ftp is like the www in a web address. It is where the files are stored at Matrix. Coffee Cup is a program that manages big downloads from ftp sites. If you lose your connection to the internet, it can start up again where you left off instead of starting over. There are other programs, some free some not.

All fixed...thanks so much for your help. Probably the problem at my end, but who knows? Certainly, I find it nearly impossible to tell whether the JTCS downloads are happening or not.

Once again, VMT

You're welcome, glad I could help.

Were you able to click About and see the 1.04?
