After Combat Retreat Question

Post by seaforth7 »

My Russia army is beaten in the battle of Berlin, I have a reserve corps and a depot in the Stettin province and I occupy the city and control the province but the AI retreats my army across the river into Colberg further into Prussia? Why did it do this? Seems like a dumb move no one would do [&:] If the AI can't retreat correctly it should let the owner handle it,

Per EiA, the victor decides the retreat path (within the rules; see below), so the AI is under no obligation to put you where you'd like to go.

BUT it must choose among areas as close as possible to the nearest supply source. So if you have a depot adjacent, and it retreats you to an area with no depot, that's an illegal move, and a bug.

If there's a depot in Colberg also, it's kosher, and good play on the AI's part since, as noted above, for retreat it's playing as your enemy.

no, Stettin had the dept on it, Colberg had no depot and there was no other depot outside of Russian territory, do you want me to send you the file?

Is the depot in a valid supply chain?
Do you have the game before the retreat (i.e. the battle itself)? I would like to see that so that I could watch the retreat as it happens.
The only situation I could think of is IF the depot was not in a valid supply chain in which case the retreat would be toward the MP capital.

Thank you

It is a valid depot thru sea supply, plus it was used by all the corps in Berlin as their supply source successfully. I'll send the battle file later,

cheers
