1.6 patch and Kiel Canal

1.6 patch and Kiel Canal

With the 1.60 patch Naval units may not both exit and enter a port on the same Naval move. This is in general a very good thing, and something I myself lobbied for to in particular help with balance in the Med/Africa Campaign.

It has however had I think and unforseen effect on the Kiel Canal.

Previously one could move from Kiel to Bremen thereby allowing units in the Baltic to move to the North Sea. Now however since one is prohibited from moving directly from Kiel to Bremen units in the Baltic cannot utilize the Kiel Canal to make this movement.

Units in the Baltic are stuck there until Denmark is taken, when they should and could and did use the Kiel Canal to move into the North Sea.

While I overall applaud the change, in this case it needs to be corrected somehow. One will even see when clicking on Kiel that there is a path from Kiel to Bremen on the fleet display that is green, however one may not use it.

I ran into this also with the BETA, I believe the canal can be accessed after spending a turn in the Baltic.

Yep your right, if I keep the ships in the baltic for a turn they can go straight to Bremen! That works no fix needed, I guess I was just moving fleets and never letting one stay in the baltic for a turn to see!

Anyway.. move along.. nothing to see here *blush*

Actually I've seen one teeny, tiny speck.

IIRC, there's a ship that starts on a N. Sea port that is damaged and cannot be moved across the canal without exposing it to being sunk early on in the N. Sea.
