Polish Air Force defeats Luftwaffe

Post by gwgardner »

Recon finally located this 5-2 Polish air unit near Warsaw, so started hammering it. It withstood 9 sorties from the Luftwaffe, and took one German air division down 3 strength points.

The good guys sometimes win. For a while.

The Slovakian fighters have their chance soon.

Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. All our hearts go out to the fighter pilots, whose brilliant actions we see with our own eyes day after day…

Surely your Poles deserve such praise.

True story

On September 12, 1939, Lt. Jan Falkowski, an instructor at the Polish Aviation Training Center, was flying a PWS 26 from Lublin to Sokal when three Messerschmitt Bf109 fighters spotted his fabric-covered biplane. Anticipating an easy victory, the three Germans promptly attacked. It was a big mistake. Fully aerobatic, the PWS was one of the finest trainers in pre-war Europe. With Lt. Falkowski at the controls, the three Germans received a "master class" in the art of dogfighting. In a remarkable exhibition of flying skill, Lt. Falkowski outmaneuvered the advanced Bf109s, causing one to crash in flames and the others to withdraw in frustration

3 ME-109's vs a PWS 26 trainer! I have a copy of the painting that was done for for this feat, its called "Master Class" by Marek Radomski and Piotr Gorka

That pesky Polish air unit refuses to die, even after being attacked on the ground by lead elements of a German armored division.
