Protectorate Creation/Armies

How long after people create protectorates from conquered territories do their protectorate armies start showing up?

I don't think I've ever seen protectorate armies showing up after a protectorate is formed. I've read that certain protectorates will send you levies during the spring, but I wonder if a protectorate army only exists if they ask a major power to be their protector?

Protectorates don't seem to be making units unless part of a larger entity like the COR, Kingdom of Naples, etc. Seems the feudal levy adjustments were way overdone and these units were produced through the feudal levy.

I've seen troops from protectorates show up (in SP games) as quickly as a couple months. Then in other cases they NEVER produce any.
