So we have reached Day 70 of the war...progress has been steady...at times spectacular....and at others a true slog.

On the 70th turn, February 14, 1942 Singapore was captured. This followed a siege of several weeks....the initial Straights crossing and shock attack being launched on January 24. The conquest was accomplished using the Imp Gd Div, 5th Division, 41st IR and elements of the 18th, and 56th Divisions. A significant portion of the 18th Division was rerouted to the Burma frontier after the occupation of Johore Bharu.

To date we have occupied 85% of Java including Soerbaja. The invasion was conducted using the 21st ID, the 2nd ID, the 21st IMB, two tank regts, three SNLFs and some additional support units. The initial assault being launched by the 21st IMB against Semnarang. The invasion was covered for approximately a week by KB. During these operation CV Zuikaku collided with CL Abukama both ships suffered structural damage and have returned to the Home islands for repair. Java apparently was not reinforced other than with some American P-40's and the Banshee's, which in the end were not decisive.

Batavia is currently under siege by the 21st ID and elements of the 2nd ID. A a Regt of the 2nd ID also has Tjilitijap are under siege.

Borneo has been occupied - with the exception of Bandjermasin and the base next to Tarakan.

The entirety of the Phillippines were conquered early on. Przemek tried to defend at the coast with some units and this may have cost him. In addition he opted to defend Manila instead of Bataan. This resulted in the loss of the heavy guns in the Bataan Fortress which could have been used to supplement the defensive Bombardment strength. The conquest of Luzon was accomplished using the 4th ID, 48th ID, 16th ID, 65th IMB and the 38th ID after the occupation of Hong Kong in the first week. In addition much of the artillery from Pescadores and HK were also brought in.

The Celebes have been also been occupied with the exception of one minor base in the north. Manado and Ternate were taken early. However instead of driving due south on Kendari I opted to occupy the east coast of Borneo and drive directly of Java. As a result Ambon and Timor are still in Allied hands but are slated to be mopped up shortly.

In Northern China I have opted to play defensively and secured my bases from attack but have not pressed.

In North Central China my initial thrust at Nanyang was thwarted. I had occupied the base, however Przemek counterattacked presumably using Chinese reserves brought in from Sian and retook the base. However the strength of my attack in this area left Chengchow in a precarious position and Przemek opted to abandoned Chengchow and withdraw to Loyang. However I believe due to other events in Central China Przemek has since also chosen to abandon Loyang. Presumably falling back to a position around Sian with these forces.

Early I reinforced Ichang immediately with 1 Division, 1 Tank regt, and Artillery from Hankow.These reinforcements prevented the fall of Ichang and tied up 8 or 9 Chinese corps in a fruitless siege that would witness steady Chinese losses from defensive Bombardment attacks.

With Ichang still in my hands and Nanyang under serious pressure from the North I sent a small feint down the road to Ankang and a second advance cross country around Ichang to advance on the dot base at Patung. This generated the response I was looking for as Przemek needed to draw forces out of Nanyang to try and trap my feint. Also within days I saw Loyang abandoned in the North and a large stack in the center near Nanchang withdraw. Presumably Przemek is withdrawing to attempt to create a strategic reserve and consolidate his lines.

A little further south I feinted at Changsha early with 2 divisionsand suffered a series of setbacks in the rough terrain between Wuchang and Changsha. I opted to withdraw back to Wuchang and play defense. At Nanchang Przemek attempted to go on the offensive however I had sufficient force to maintain control of the base behind the entrenchments. While this battle was in progress I reshuffled my garrisons and launched a general offensive through Chuhsien to Kanhsien. Both bases are now Japanese controlled and the remaining Chinese forces that were cut off in this area have finally been mopped up freeing another 2+ divisions. I think I will shift these forces to Canton.

In the South Pacific.... Rabaul was occupied against Light opposition around Christmas time. In addition Shortlands, Tulagi, and Lae have been occupied. I haven't put a lot of presssure on in this area mainly due to a lack of assets ...but with the fall of the SRA being imminent this situation will change. I plan on putting on a significant push towards Pt. Moresby.

Further East I have occupied Tarawa and Tabituea. Both have been reinforced and are in the process of being fortified. One thing I have noticed is an apparent lack of Japanese CD guns.... need to ask the OB folks about this.

Burma promises to be a real test. Apparently from my recon reports Przemek must have brought all of the commonwealth reinforcements into Burma. My air force is being severly handled by the British Hurricanes...hopefully I will be able to bring superior numbers to bear shortly and turn the tide. I wish to win air superiority over Burma for the next 6 months or so to allow me to conquer the area .

So now the question is with the fall of Singapore...Do I launch an overland invasion of Burma or do I sidestep Rangoon and land several divisions along the Arakan coast from Akyab to Chittagong? The problem is to support such an invasion I will need to once again put KB at risk from attack from Land based air.

Other options I am exploring are a possible invasion of Ceylon or the East Coast of India...although I'm not sure I want to overextend myself....as well as a possible Central Pacific push to take Christmas Island.....hmmm... the possibilities.

Japan cant win by playing the numbers. When i saw this comment I was thinking Go Ceylon. With a minor Chitagong area landing first as a diversion. Losing land forces is no big deal the issue is Naval and air power. At least taking Ceylon will force a big commitment from him and you should be able to attrition his Naval forces. He has to supply Burma also. Pull out in 6 months if your worried about being over extended. I think this is safer than Australia or the Cent pacific. Maybe a diversion in the Solomans at the same time as Chitagong making him think CHitagong is just an attempt at Burma.

If the allies go hard in Burma it the past it was a mistake because of Indian Landing but now they get their extra troops if your not careful. However if the allies hold ( and they can with all the INdian troops in that terrain hold most of Burma you are at a BIG disadvantage in 43.

Expect a US counter in the Pac though. However its prob better he attacks you now in the Pacific as later he will just isolate any forces committed there.

Burma March 1942

I have given up on direct air attacks of Rangoon. Hurricane with Early raid detection has proven deadly....still debating on one of three options...I have a few more weeks until the Japanese unload bonus expires.

1. Ceylon
2. East Coast (South in game) of India
3. Assam

Of the three Ceylon is the least attractive to me....assuming I take Ceylon what have I really accomplished? Eastern India can still be reinforced from Karachi.

The East Coast of India is attractive as it provides a direct threat to Calcutta...likewise the Assam region (Akyab-Chittagong) provides a direct threat to Dacca and Imphal.

Either of these two options would unhing the strong defense Przemek has set up in Burma.

If you take ceylon then he cannot mount any amphibious ops against your western flank from India before he retakes it. In AE it has too numerous airfields to be supressable from air, so invasion is the only option.

I made the decision that forcing Prezemek out of Burma was more important in the long run than seizing Pt. Moresby...so I sent KB to protect the Assam Invasion TF's. I currently have 3 divisions prepping for PM and plan on attempting a landing sometime in mid-April after I have my AKs back from Burma and out of the conversion yards. My Invasion bonus expires at the end of the month so I do not want to attempt it with only xAKs. In the mean time I will have to suffer through the carpet bombing campaign. Unlike WitP the Japanese in AE do not have many air units to throw around.

Yes it did.[;)] Hopefully the Brit carriers are hurt enough to force their withdrawal. In any event 20th Division has been deposited into the Assam to followup the 5th and 56th.

Transports are now withdrawing.

Rangoon and Pegu have fallen. Allied forces in Burma appear to be falling back on Mandalay.
