Should I get it?

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Just go it.
Played a one day BOB as England game and lost. :)
Didn't even read the manual.

If you ask me, I still prefer WitP AE over this.
But not comparable as these are different genres.

hehe, same as joni here, but I am from germany. just got it

didnt read the manual - no printed one !!! - Matrix deserves an E for it -basta.

I am a UV and WITP veterean from day one, bought AE and still hang around there, just started the LW one day campaign and lost but Dover radar is gone now.

in this game, the planning phase is immense and the turn is compared to the planning phase quite short.

I have to sort out the planning stuff firt to have an opinion on this game and of course...reading the manual.

good thing is that there is a tutorial - and then - as usual - the step by step technology.

What's good about this game is that it's like a 2-in-1 game.
Gameplay as attackers and defenders are quite different that it's like two different games.

Due to the nature of the game (limited scope), what I don't like is that there's little satisfaction in finishing a day.
Unlike WitP where you get so see bases captured, ships sunk, and planes shot down.
Here it's just planes shot down, and some facilities damaged.

I hate you guys. I'll probably have to buy this now. :)

Well, it's not solely your fault. I just finished a campaign game of "RAF (2nd edition)", a solitaire boardgame that models the Battle of Britain. I had great fun with it. Anyone ever played it?

Grotius,

Yes I also have the game ( published by West End Games ).

I think mine is the original version dated 1986.

As pathetic as it may be to admit this, I actually took RAF on my honeymoon to New Zealand and Bora Bora in 1989. I had just recently purchased RAF and was really enjoying it. I managed to get a few hours in playing it during the few times my wife went out shopping without me. It's a great game. Luckily my wife is a big strategy/scrabble gamer (but not a wargamer) so she understands the need to game. Gary and I used to play the original Fighter Command by mail (before email), and I found RAF to be the next best thing.
All understanding comes after the fact.

I played RAF. Nice and simple game.  Eagle Day actually encouraged me to look into it again.
But RAF combat resolution is quite wierd though.

The new version of RAF apparently incorporates a number of design changes, but I never played the original, so I don't know how extensive the changes are. My impression is that the combat system isn't all that different. It is indeed unusual, in that you total *all* combat factors instead of computing odds, but it works.

Joel, good for you for getting some gaming in on your honeymoon! It's supposed to be a fun trip, after all. :)

The new version is considerably better than the previous one. The biggest difference is that you can now play as Germans either solitaire or as a 2-handed HtH. In essence you get 3 games instead of the original one! The combat resolution has also improved and there are not quite as many "unusual" results. All in all I think it is pretty good and a considerable improvement on the original. [:)]

Hello everyone,

here is another uncertain WitP:AE grognard.

I've been a while keeping an eye on GGEDTBTR.
But I´m still undecided. [:(]

No demo out there - no video.

Have the posters here, especially the WitP:AE owner/lover, now a trailing thoughts about the game?
Is it worth to be purchased?
Is it worth to be played?

If you call yourself a WiTP AE grognard, it's almost safe that you're going to enjoy EDBTR as well. Especially in regard to the large campaigns with full axis production. This is another Grisgby monster title which comes closer to his latter naval simulations as any else game you could purchase.
