Upgrades/Refits

Post by NAVMAN »

Greetings:
Playing scen 010. Noted that ships are marked as due for upgrade. As an example,
AP Hunter Liggett is at PH, showing upgrade:"yes", due 6/44. The scen date is 1/4/45.
Class shown for Liggett is 6/1943. How do I get this ship upgraded and why, if the upgrade
was due 6/44, is it showing upgrade due 6/44 and a class of 6/43? The whole upgrade/refit
scheme has me confused(more than my usual).
Can anyone enlighten me as to how the refit/upgrade scheme works? My understanding
is that a base w/ a shipyard and a ship less than 5 sys dmg will refit/upgrade.
Hope someone can explain the mechanics of this routine.

Thx.

I have not played that scenario but I don't think that upgrades are allowed in it. I could be wrong. If I am than a ship at less then 5 sys damage with a shipyard should upgrade.

Thx for the reply. I played around with the other campaigns and it appears that the
refit/upgrade routine will only work with campaigns and not scenarios, so I think you are correct. The terms "refit" and "upgrade" appear to be one in the same, although the
game uses both terms. Also, looks like conversions can only be done at SF. The
fact that refits/upgrades can not be done in scenarios should have been mentioned
somewhere, unless I missed that part in the manual. Thx again for your reply.

Correct in Scenarios Refits/upgrades are not turned on. Only in Campaign games you can use them. Also correct anything under 4 system damage will get an upgrade. I say 4 not 5 because I had a carrier at 5 sys damage that did not upgrade sitting in San Francisco. At 4 she refitted.

There are about 6 criteria including the above, I'm sure the manual has them. I know you can upgrade at Pearl.

I think it includes supply level, port size et al.

Jeff, question im sure you can answer - Lets say I take Guam down the road, build her maxed out with 4 AR's and 100,000+ of supplies, how come none of the ships would repair?

what kind of damage ?

port size ?

ARs help increasing the chance but its notmandatory to repair sys damage at all in a small port.

Say 25sys damage on a Cruiser, maybe some fire/flood damage.
Port size 6, over 250,000 supplies, Naval HQ 4 AR's in port disbanded with the cruiser.

Also a Destroyer in port, 50 sys and 50 flood is disbanded too, its not being repaired.

Misconduct,

Your ships should be repairing.  What you have described is NOT working as designed based on what you have reported.

Some people have found processes "hang" or "stall".  They "kick start" the processes by making a significant change.  You might try reforming the ships into a TF and then disbanding them again.

Yeah, i'm not exactly new so I went through all the usual steps - made sure no transports were docked so it dont eat up repair points, formed task force and disbanded it, even made a TF and drove it 1 hex away and let it return on its own to disband it. Made 3 separate TF's and disbanded them, and still 3 ships would not simply lower sys damage from above 30+.

I can understand certain things like a gun turret being destroyed and that would require a full repair yard like Pearl, but the biggest damage I had between 1 CA and 2 DD's was a depth charge rack that was destroyed on a DD and thats it.

It doesn't matter now I started a fresh new game as allies in hoping to tinker around some more with WITP, I don't plan to switch to AE for while until I get some more time to actually sit down and re-learn the game, so far I feel comfortable enough with WITP to stay with 1 turn a day :)

You sure did all of the tricks I might have tried.  I hope you don't see the problem again now that you have restarted.

I share your thoughts about AE.  I have been fiddling with it, but I'll wait for Patch 2 before I really dive in.  I'm also mighty curious about what will happen after the next patch for WITP.  WITP is a grand game!

One thing I learned in my years tinkering on the computer, is never jump into something when it first comes out, Windows 98 (garbage) Windows 98SE excellent. Same goes for gaming, I figured i'd buy AE and just wait out till the first patch comes out and then jump into a game just to learn it, but not before all the bugs get fixed.

I hope there is another patch for WITP and its not just a dead game. I would like to see a patch to help new players deal with mods/skins. I forget the name of the game, but few years ago ID Software put out a patch to help modders deal with the game and really opened my eyes to how easy modding can be for games.

I know JGSME has been excellent doing this, but it took me 6 months tinkering with it to figure out I could just download 1 mod with all its goodies and put into 1 folder so I could enable it and get all the stuff in 1 button rather then have to install 15 packages separate.
