Japanese situation at the start.
Prior to all this happening the AI has attempted to invade Canton Is using Kaga as cover. I’d prevented this causing some damage to her using a combination of the Saratoga, Lexington plus land aircraft. For some reason the Kaga has been sitting off Baker Is with a number of other TFs (I assume TR and surface) for sometime doing nothing. Little air activity has taken place as it’s too far for the Betties to reach from any base big enough to hold them.
Has attempted to invade Port Moresby twice, suffering damage to a CVE and a number of transports but has put the 66th Infantry Grp ashore. It has been sending bomdardment TF at regular intervals again suffering damage. Air activity is heavy from a number of Japanese base.
Akyab has been assaulted three times from across the river and been thrown back with heavy losses on all but the last. The latest assault was last turn by the 146th Infantry Rgt which is still there. Air activity has been light to date but Akyab is within range of a number of large Jap A/F.
Allied situation at the start.
Canton Is (p3, a2, f3). Garrisoned by the 220th USN BF and the 2nd USM Def Bn with a combined AV of 35but with less than average experience. Air units present consist of 1 x F2A-3, 1 x SBD-3 and 1 x PBY-5A all average experience. No combat ships
The Hornet was enroute from PH to Suva, the Saratoga is in Noumea with minor damage available as cover.
Port Moresby (p2, a2, f3). Garrison by the 1st Aus Army with the 1st Aus Bde, 49th Aus Bn and the 1st Aus Med Rgt attached. Also present are the 7th Aus Div/1 Aus Crop. Port Moresby Bde and 15th RAAF BF attached to the Aus Cmd, 131st FA Bn, 137th US BF, 641st Towed TD Bn, 94th AA Bn and part of the 208th AA Bn all of the US Army. Total AV 741. Nearly all the Aussie unit had experience around 60.
With Av support at 48 the number of a/c at the base is limited to 1 x P-40E, 1 x P-39D and 1 x A-24 varying in experience. There are no ships other than a damaged PG at the base.
The Yorktown, Enterprise and Lexington CGs are operating in the area but short of fighters and need rearming.
Akyab (p0,a3, f4). Garrisoned at Akyab are the Burma Corp with the 18th Br Div, 44th Ind Bde, 45th Ind Bde, 7th Hussar Rgt and the 85th Br AT Rgt. Also present are the 84th Ind Bd/North cmd, 8th Md Art Rgt and 103rd RN BF both attached to the Eastern Flt. Total AV 804 but lacks experience.
Av support is only 16 and has one Hurricane IIb Sqd (Ex 57). No ships.
Ceylon. LCU don’t matter. Air units based on the island are 1 x Hur IIb, 1 x Fulmar II, 2 x P-40E, 1 x P-40E HQ, 1 x P-38E (6 a/c), 1 x Hudson 1and 1 x Catalina 1. All with average experience and fresh. The 4 US units had just arrived from Cape Town and were training.
The port of Colombo was full including 2 x CV, 1 x CVL, 2 x BB, 3 x CA, 11 x CL, 1 x CLAA and 17 x DD plus many other.
Other important Allied players
The US have no BB in the area, I lost 7 at PH and the others were either at PH or SF. There are 16 x CA/CLAA/CL in the area of which four are in port recovering from damage the other split between the three CG one surface group.
6 x B-17D/E are based in Townsville/Charters Towers bombing the Japs in Milne Bay trying to prevent them building a base. Blenheims are attacking ground units in and around Akyab.
I have 6 sub patrolling between NG and Rabaul. Search planes are located at Horn Is, Cooktown and Cairns. Fortresses from Brisbane are also in search mode at max range.
Day 1 29 April 1942

RE: 14 days in the life of the Allies against a Japanese AI
Day 14 12 May 1942
Intel
2/Guards Mixed Brigade and III./90th Infantry Battalion is planning for an attack on Canton Island. Jap CG has reappeared off Ceylon. Another Jap unit crosses the river into Akyab.
Orders
Lexingtion in Rockhampton repairing using the AR. I will send it to Brisbane later then PH or West coast. Yorktown heading to Sydney via the coast. Saratoga CG has been sent back to Noumea, has to be Noumea as it’s the only place I have a decent amount of fuel. I’ve loads of the stuff in Perth but due to the bug, fuel isn’t moving by rail/road. Surface TF has docked in Townsville. All the US carriers are in need of fighters.
I’ve docked both Br CG due to lack of serviceable planes. The Japs missed the Br surface TF it’s now heading West.
Lexington’s a/c are being moved to Rockhampton.
Ops
Banshees in PM harrying Jap TF, one hit on xAK. B-17 attack ground units at Milne.
Seven land based air attacks on PM, no damage. Des/dam: AF 1/0; JF 4/0, JLB 3/7, JDB 1/0, JTB 1/0. One air attacks on Akyab, no damage. Des/dam: JLB 0/8.
One Sweep on Koggola and two Jap air attacks on Colombo, no damage. Des/dam: AF 5/0; JF 1/0, JDB 4/5, JTB 3/2.
