Setting Supply Priority - Myth?

Post by Canoerebel »

In my AAR there was a post suggesting that I set supply priority between my various bases - specifically raising the priority of west coast bases like S.F., L.A., and S.D. so that they would draw more supplies from the East Coast.

Sounded like a good idea, but is it actually possible to set supply priority for a base? I've checked the map in my game and didn't see any such feature and I've done searches in the manual and in the Forums without any luck (searching "Set Supply Prirority" in the Forums turned up only the post in my AAR).

So, can I or can't I?

Dan, all I can guess is they are referring to boosting the "requested supply level" at the West Coast bases.  I don't know if it changes any priorities, but other bases with an excess of 2X requested supply should release some to these bases.

Canorebel,

Perhaps what the poster was referring to is the arrows on the Home Base main screen.

On the left hand side of the page (by current fuel, supply, etc.) are arrows that can be toggled to the right or left. By increasing these (selecting the arrows on the right), that increases that amount of supply requested or priority for supply. I believe that the West Coast system will draw supplies via overland rail connections to the East Coast, Midwest and the like, so it should be worth a go.

I apologize if this post strikes you as sophomoric-you've probably thought of doing this. I mostly posted it for the consideration of those out there with considerably less gameplay experience with a similar unvoiced question.

Chickenboy, I am indebted to you. Following your instructions I found those arrows. So I finally know what to do.

P.S. How did other folks learn about this feature? Am I the only one who didn't realize it was possible to raise the "demand level" for supplies?

sorry for bad call a feature: if you go in the base screen, where is signed the supply request, you can change the supply request level. i call supply priority as the engine try to fullfill that requests before all the others

I only knew because I remembered the devs talking about this in a feature list pre-release. As I'm a proud, founding member of the T-shirted "Manuals? Bah!!!" club, I have no idea where in there you would find this gem.

Using those arrows it's somewhat possible to "walk" supply across India and China (more the former than latter; there has to be supply in the first place.) I have Chittagong as my MLR left anchor, and, using the arrows, I've dragged 50k+ supply into Imphal, through the jungle. Same with coastal Yukon (a bit), and the interior CONUS bases, mostly to suport airfield expansions.

It's really one of the best improvements over WITP they put in. For a game that is all about logistics, WITP's was opaque, to be knind.

Another use of the supply requested arrows I've found is for supply denial to the enemy. If an area is about to be overrun, minimize its supply request and increase the supplies requested elsewhere in the theatre away from this location.

The effect is to 'pull' supply away from the area to be overrun towards more defensible areas, thereby denying it to the enemy.

What are you planning with all those barges? Maybe you should line them all up for training runs by my P39's. No, wait, it's more fun to see the "LB obliterated by direct hit from 500lb bomb" messages. [:D]

LOL. Yer right, Java is toast! (Thanks, Chickenboy, that's another good idea I hadn't previously thought of. When I actually have an original and effective thought in this game I'll let you guys know).

The devs sent the rest of us a special email.

Post deleted as I realized my attempt at humor could come across as overly snarky.

Is there a post delete option, or just an edit?

Dumb luck. I stumbled onto it the first day I got the game. Purely accidental. Now, I only learned yesterday by reading your AAR that you can name convoys. Most of my education comes from this forum.
