3.10 Feature: Boarding (Inspection) & Takeover (Piracy)
Boarding and takeover allow some craft to board others and possibly switch the boarded craft to their side. This can represent Coast Guard inspections or Piracy.
Boarding and takeover are behaviors offered with the strike and patrol missions. Using the mission profile feature, strike and patrol missions can be set so that they intercept, board, and possibly take over enemy craft. Strike missions allow for targeted boardings and patrol missions allow for finding targets of opportunity.
This pair of behaviors is perhaps the most basic and wanting of development. We have worked with Larry Bond and Chris Carlson to develop the basic concept while leaving it open to further study. We look forward to user input helping shape this feature.
Again, demonstrations will be made available on this forum and the AGSI wiki.

That sounds like very good news! Will it be possible to take over hostile land facilities, whole bases? That would be a quantum leap.

Helicopters will be able to take over a single land unit (facility). One of my test scenarios was for a Blackhawk to deliver a Ranger squad to take over a runway allowing another plane to land. Takeover of whole bases are not supported yet.
Thanks,

A little more information in short form.
Helicopters can board or take over facilities and ships.
Ships can board and take over other ships.
The boarders have to be able to intercept the target.
When a target unit is taken over it will be assigned to the secondary mission of the boarding craft's mission.
The taken unit is switched to the side of the boarding craft.
Sides will track who is boarding who and prevent duplication of effort. I believe this will require some changes as there are situations where you want a multi-craft effort to board a target unit.

These new features make the game even more challenging.
moving ground-units? That would be a real challenge!

Frans.

Does anyone know if there is a scenario on file that this can be tested?

Hello,
I´m just working on the first one. I´ll test an carrier based helo assault on land facilities.

Russell,
I´m on my way writing a scenario which deals with a carrier based assault force trying to take over land faclities. Database is ANW DB 2.0.
Some questions:
1. Do all helos have the ability to takeover land facilities?
2. If not, which one are able to achievbe that?
3. Is there a special loadout needed?

RE: 3.10 Feature: Boarding (Inspection) & Takeover (Piracy)
These Boarding Teams, does it also allow Special Forces to take in a land based military compound? I mean, there are so many "targets" and "Teams"....... Is this a new feature?
Great! But that means also a new generation of ship's ammo-dumps, etc. etc.
Question:........ When do we get moving ground units?

Greetings,

Currently, all helicopters can board and takeover a land facility or ship. Also, all ships can take over other ships. If the craft can intercept and successfully put men aboard without getting blown up, it will have a 50% chance of success to takeover (if set to do so). There is currently no skirmish, attrition, or expenditure figured. No particular weapon is required.
I put together some demo scenarios and will make them available.Does anyone know if there is a scenario on file that this can be tested?
Changes I'm considering:
New Target Types (Land and Sea Boarding): Would allow the database editors to determine the boarding capability.
Resisted boarding & takeover: Reduced chance if a boat or facility is armed.
Multiplayer Switch: Allow the players to disable the boarding feature. This feature might radically change the balance of many scenarios.
Moving Ground Units & When: Every night around my REM cycle. I might play with this after 3.10. Famous last words: It shouldn't be too hard.
Your thoughts?
Thanks,

And here's a link to some of the test scenarios that have been developed for the 3.10 features.

How to download them? There are no downloadable links.

Russell,
This sounds like a major breakthrough. Especially the resisted boarding and takeover is very important IMO. And it would be important to takeover complete bases.
For my understanding:
Situation: I want to write a scen which focuses on an seaborne (helos from carrier) assault aiming to takeover a base.
What to do:
- model a base WITHOUT grouping the individual facilities into a base
- Intercept all individual facilities via helo attacks
Would that mean that I can take a runway which then could be used by the carrier´s fixed wing aircraft?

The download link is in the overview section. It uses ANWDB.
Any unit taken over is now entirely usable to by the side owning it. It will also be a target for any enemy combatants.

Ok, got them - thanks!
And to the second answer - great! So I can take runways with helos, then fly in my fixed wing aircraft.

The player can but I do not believe you can set up a ferry mission to a air facility until it is friendly. So I can take runways with helos, then fly in my fixed wing aircraft.
RE: 3.10 Feature: Boarding (Inspection) & Takeover (Piracy)
Ok, got the test scens and looked into the helo-takeover-facility one.
It really works - excellent job, Russell! [:D]
I´ve dreamt of this feature for many years and now it is available. It adds a whole new dimension for a scen editor.
Thanks ![&o]
On my way to write a ANW DB scen building on it.

RE: 3.10 Feature: Boarding (Inspection) & Takeover (Piracy)
I would like to take advantage of the demo scenarios but I am having problems getting them to work.
I have a number of the ANWDB databases in the game DB folder, ANWDB, ANWDB_392, ANWDB_3739 and ANWDB_3900.
I’ve tried using all four but get the “error scenario version is later than the program version aborting load”
Am I using the correct DB, if not where do I get the most up to date version from?
The new beta build works fine, it's the demo scenarios where I come to a halt!
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Problem
Do you have all the proper patches?
It seems as though you may not be up to date with them because the Demo scenarios were created with the 3.9.4 version of the game. If you only patched up to the 3.9.2 or 3.9.3 version, that message would appear.
Please ensure that you have patched correctly. IMO, these are the bare minimum patches required for proper function:
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3ANW/Harpoon3ANW-UpdateRelease-380-Inc.zip
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3ANW/Harpoon3ANW-UpdateRelease-v3900DR.zip
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3ANW/Harpoon3ANW-UpdateRelease-v392bComp.zip
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3ANW/Harpoon3ANW-UpdateHotfix-v393.zip
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3ANW/Harpoon3ANW-HotfixRelease-v394.zip
I suggest using the PlayersDB for the least number of problems.
