I’m not seeing an issue. If you have 25 non and 25 disabled squads you get 50 non disabled upgraded squads. Non and disabled are added together when determining number of devices.

For device upgrades you must have 2 times the number of devices in pool than the unit currently has so if the unit currently has 50 it needs 100. Also the base must have the number of devices needed times its load cost in supplies plus 2 times supplies required. Op mode is not considered.

BigJ,

What about this issue (true or false?). This would make a big difference in many games:

However, DISABLED squads are not replaced by the same number of upgraded squads (probably to represent the reduced number of effective personnel). Hint, ensure there are no disabled squads in your LCU before you upgrade or a percentage will be gone for good.

Fantastic! The report was that (for example) the 25 disabled squads would be replaced by less than 25. Glad to see that myth busted. Thanks.

I thought it would be if you had 25 non and 25 disabled squads you would get 25 non and 25 disabled uprgrade squads. I think that was in the manual. Your disabled are now newfully functioning squads on upgrade?

Having them become ready does make some sense because part of the non-ready issue is loss of equipment the squad needs. Of course it doesn't explain replacing casualties in squads to make them ready, but at least it's not totally off the mark.

I would say:
In the UNIT - 25 disabled + 25 OK will be upgraded with 25 disabled + 25 OK
In the POOL - 25 disabled will give you only 12 or so sqads while 25 OK will give you 25 squads.

So, UPGRADE only nondisabled units if possible!

What exactly is a disabled device and I'm not just talking about squads?

Not sure about that question, however two of my own for clarification.

25,(25) squads [active, disabled] will replace to 50 [active] squads. correct?

AND the 50 squads used to replace them - ALL will remain in pool to replace next unit. correct?

Thanks

Ah, not sure what you mean. Who mentioned a 'disabled device'? I used my browser to search this page for "device" and your post was the first mention of the word.

They are all devices so, I get 50 brand new of something but because I have 25/25 of the old I should put the brand new back in the same way? It almost makes sense if we are talking about squads but what of arty devices, should I be getting brand new broke ones? I'm not too clear on what is a broken, disabled or whatever you want to call it is, is it a broke leg, sick, depressed or a broken rifle? Until I get a really good definition of what is a diabled whatever and we start keeping track of why it is broke, I'm thinking if I get 50 brand new somethings I want them going into the non disabled column.

I agree - new things should be put back new/fully working/non-disabled (we need easier terminology!).

My comment a few posts above was in response to somebody posting, in effect, that they were getting freebies when a disabled squad was replaced with an enabled squad. IMO they are not getting any freebies with respect to equipment because, as you point out, the new equipment is, well, new. The only possible 'freebie' is that, abstractly, a disabled squad might be theoretically including an certain number of WIA that are being replaced (via the supply abstraction) by healthy soldiers when the squad 'heals' and goes from disabled to enabled. Upgrade that squad and the WIA are magically healed.

In theory I suppose that is a minor freebie. But really, do we need to add even more code for accounting for something like that? There is only the tiniest of benefit, so it's not worth it. At least that's my opinion. It's fine the way it is.

Hope this clears up any confusion I was causing you.

Well might could make it a little tougher to get upgrades via some min supply level plus cost of upgrade at a friendly base with no enemy.

Personally I would be unlikely to complain about things that add realism without adding too much micromanagement.

But what's a main base? Would a base force on Midway have to be shipped to Pearl? Upgraded squads and equipment can be shipped anywhere that supply can be shipped. I think the main base thing would be unrealistic. To make it any base might be reasonably realistic. And needing to have a minimum supply on hand to actually execute an upgrade makes sense too. If supply (which abstracts replacement equipment and more) isn't available you certainly wouldn't be getting new equipment in there.

As for the other part of that, when a disabled squad upgrades you could make it consume supply equal to what it takes to 'heal', that way the player wouldn't get a free ride with respect to supplies used up healing squads.

Still, the current implementation is pretty darn good already. The above ideas might be slight improvements but certainly aren't necessary.

Well I think this will make a point:

Manual:
When upgrades are performed, they remove all of the elements of a single weapon’s element (i.e. all 37mm AT guns or all USA Rifle Squads) in a ground unit, placing these back in the replacement pool (both disabled and ready squads). An equal number of new elements are placed in the unit in the same condition as the elements removed (i.e. 6 ready and 4 disabled 37mm AT guns will be replaced with 6 ready and 4 disabled 57mm AT guns, while 10 37mm AT guns will be added to the replacement pool).

Well, that seems the best solution as far as upgrading disabled squads, but I thought BigJ62 looked at the code and said it works otherwise?

That would be nice to know if some of the devs could be bothered. [:)]
I am working in the "IT industry" so one do not have to tell me that the red ball specified in a documentation could be actually coded and delivered as a black cube [:D]
