Computer Control ASW/Mine missions?

Post by jackyo123 »

if i set up a TF for mine sweeping or ASW and assign to computer control -

what exactly does the computer do with it? It looks to me like those missions never leave the base hex.

thanks

I know that this isn't really the answer that you are looking for, but the general consenses of opinion on this forum seems to be that computer control is not to be used. There are just too many variables for the computer to come up with anything reasonable. Figure out what you need done and give them orders yourself. You'll get a lot more accomplished. Sorry.[:(]

If you assign a TF to computer control you are ceding all control over that TF to the computer. It will assign missions, decide when to disband, or just do nothing - at it's whim.

Since patrol zones have been added in AE, there is little need for a human player to assign his TFs to computer control. Exceptions are subs and Auto Convoy/Computer-CS supply TFs. There are upper level controls for subs (Auto Sub Ops) and Auto Convoy, and Computer CS is a set and forget supply run. TFs assigned to patrol zones are partially under computer control as it will handle leaving patrol zones for replenishment, and subsquent returning, but there is no benefit to actually setting computer control.

Other than that, I would recommend that you do not assign TFs to the computer. Since players can not assign map regions to computer control there is little reason to asign TFs to computer control.

Thanks Don -

so, to be sure I understand - If I leave a tf set on Human Control and set a 3 zone patrol ASW mission, when the patrol is finished and returns to base, the computer will replenish it and send it back out to sea? Or will it just sit in the base until I reset the patrol zones and do it all again?

I've got about ten ASW task forces all set to human control with 3 day lingers set for patrol zones 1, 2 and 3 - but when the patrol is done they seem to be just sitting in the home base (brisbane in this case)

thanks. Much confused!

What I do with the TFs with really short legs (some ASW TFs with short-ranged AMs or KVs) is to give them TWO patrol zone points and make the third patrol zone point the home base. Select full refuel with 1-2 day linger for only the third leg and leave it on human control.

The TF will go about its business as though on pseudo-computer control and not need to get to 'bingo' fuel levels before returning to base.
