Devices
I know that you guys are very buzy working on Patch 2 so I have been trying hard not to ask very many questions regarding the data base. Thought I would sneak one or two in though.
What, if any, functional difference is there between Support 252 and Naval Support 255?
What is the bases of the differences between the 7 Allied Oerlikon 20mm AA (73,404,633,944,1059,1131,1540)?

RE: Devices
252 supports land units, 255 supports ships, hence the "Naval".
We are all dreams of the Giant Space Butterfly.
RE: Devices
73, 44, 633 are holdovers from the original WiTP device file. They have 9999 in the availability field and are not used (anything with 9999 in the availability field is not used). For the others, I dunno. Maybe somebody just got excited. All "ships" use the Oerlikon in device slot 1540. Maybe the land guys use the other ones somewhere - but I'm clueless about that.ORIGINAL: Buck Beach

Tough not to get to specific here without getting the type of the above warranted response. My bad.
Sooo, Motorized Support supports (what ever that is deemed)vehicles only ? Support (Vanila)lends nothing to loading and unloading any ships? Aviation Support affects only the repair rate and amount of aircraft at a base? Naval Support only provides assistance to ship repair rates and loading and unloading ships?
Maybe a better question is how to the various support devices function (specific if you will) in support of their respective designations. And, is there any carryover support, eg will vanila "Support" in anyway assist in the loading and unloading of ships (Tankers/Oilers, Supply and Troops) and will they assist in the replenishment of ammo (subject to the base size limitations.
Sorry I lead with my chin with my original question.
RE: Devices
Buck as you know I am not one of the devs, but as far as I know Naval Support is the only type of support that helps unloading ships.
Hope this helps.
Hope this helps.

RE: Devices
Support and Motorized Support are relatively interchangeable as to function....except IIRC Motorized Support is considered a vehicle and uses vehicles to be built.

Ok, there's 3 kinds of Sup devices: Support, Motor Support and Nav Support. (4 really, if you include Aviation Support)ORIGINAL: Buck Beach

Support and Motor Support only work in conjunction with Land devices (LCUs).
Support lets an LCU eat, arm, recover fatigue, maintain morale, rebuild disrupted devices, maintain AV and keep up (or trash) operational tempo.
Motor Support does the same thing as Support, but rumour has it that it does a bit better job on Tank and Vehicle based LCUs than simple Support.
Motor Support also provides a better load factor for certain LCUs because it is flagged as a "vehicle" type. So a bunch of Inf squads may only need Support, but an Arty Bn will need a crapload of trucks and forges, and a tank Bn is worse. So a certain calculated percentage of Support for a mobile, tech-based unit, is Motor Support. It loads seriously hard, as opposed to simple Support for grunts.
Naval Support is quite different. NavSup helps load/unload, repair, rearm, of ships. Has nothing to do with health, recreation and intercourse of LCUs.

I just had the greatest idea since sliced bread. Let's add a "Shore Party" device to each ship to represent the E-2 and E-3 loading teams.

RE: Devices
Actually, it IS the greatest idea since sliced bread, and we are working on just that very thing. Can't add it to a "ship" per se, but reconfiguring the Land LCUs so as to model just that thingy, is definitely on our plate for dinner.ORIGINAL: Buck Beach

I hope you are not turning into a Don Bowen clone. I have to pay him with Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee and single malt scotch. I be go to hell, if I have to do that for two of you. [:D]

Perhaps someday we will be able to load more than one 'thing' per ship and we will see the ship landing regts and such used they way they were...I remember this conversation from somewhere...glad to hear something of its ilk is still in the works.

Holy crap and I though I was just kidding. Actually, I originally thought that the Garrison type of unit could be that type of item representing Stevedores and other local population, for locations not warranting Naval Support in their BF TOE (take Juneau Alaska) But, then I thought that war time security probably wouldn't have permitted such people roamimg around to assist with such tasks.

You have no idea how much I want to do that. But it would be the tipping point for a major rework of the whole support structure....
