For Judge, BoB 7 day Campaign

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Why would you want to know where they are coming from?

The effective range of your figher escorts can be seen by looking for where the green line starts and ends during mission planning. Just choose those units that cover most of the route. And also time some escorts to join in during the return flight. Distance is also listed in the escort selection screen.

I guess it's more used to gague if they need moving or not. Am I not right?
You use the green line. That's good. But I can hardly see the green line. Also, don't you have to "click" each unit to see that green line? If so, I think we can do without "more" clicking in a game where people already think there is too much of it. I just pointed out somewhere else that you are using almost double the number of clicks with the mouse that you have to when creating a bombing mission! And, what happens to the green line if you choose another fighter unit from another location?

I'd quite like to see the distance from the list of fighters units presented to the lead bomber unit selected. I'd then choose the obvious (no clicking, no looking around the map) fighter escorts..the ones with least distance to the lead bomber unit. I could also apply that same logic when ading bombers.

1. You can only do a certain number of moves a day based on the points allowed and the aircraft being moved, right? So how in gods name in a 1 week campaign are you able to move all your fighters to the coast?

When you add fighters, the range from their airfield to the formation airfield is displayed. You obviously want to add the closest ones so they don't have to burn a lot of fuel just to reach the starting point. To select a formation airfield different from the one selected by default (the closest one to the target) move the first waypoint of the raid (inbound1). The first thing I do when presented the list of available fighter units is set them by range.

Well, I was talking about the full campaign there. Anyway, I guess that in the 1-week scenario, as in the longer games, many of the JagdGruppen are already there, you should use your points to move the most distant ones little by little (one or two a day). If you get a hundred point a day as in the longest campaign, that means a couple of units.

Specially on your left, fighters are quite badly deployed initially and need to move closer to Cherbourg.

I didn't see the distance showing up...but if that information is available when you click a unit, then it makes sense to show it next to the unit anyway...that way you don't have to "click" to see it.

I'm just all about removing unwanted clicking.

oic...I presume there's a limit to the number of aircraft airfields can hold? Is this information available in the game or the manual?

You mean you want it like it is already? It's even sorted by range by default for the lead group. Range is based on the form-up airfield.

well, Harley showed what I was going to say :)

but for moving, you got 100 points, you can move a full JG with 100 points

(a little cheat, as long as you have a point, you can move something, but it may take a little longer for that last one to become ready)

so, you move 2 Gruppen, then move the Stab, then move the 3rd Gruppen

you main goal (for me at least) is to get JG 53 togeather, one is off to the side at Brest, then move the deeper Gruppens of JG 2 forward

that is one day, and most of Luft 3 is ready on day two

you may want to pull that Gruppen form Norway out on day two, 109s in Norway are only for defence

which yea, it takes some time, and takes them out of the battle for a day, but, how much good did they do you on the first day ? they left your bombers to fly the mission by themselfs, so, really, you didn't have them on day one either

but again, focus on the goal, most of the fighting is going to be in 11 Group, any points, damage you gain in 10 Group is a bonus

to be honest, on day one, I would pull what fighters I could to the coast, deciding on what you want to try and do, either to the forward fields in Luft 3, or move them to Luft 2, day two, I would pull the bombers out of IX and put them into I or II, day 3, decide if you want those bombers in Norway or not, if not, pull them into I or II, if you want them to stay, then I would pull a KG out of IV or V and move that into I or II, the first 5 days would be moving my forces, and sending out enough to keep the RAF honest, the battle then comes on day 6 and 7

but...

Just done a few tests with Fighter Sweep and I managed (for the first time playing this game as LW) to get a positive difference on aircraft losses. Only one bombing mission, but timed a fighter sweep to be on target as the bombers with escorts were leaving. Came out on top.

So hopefully happy days are coming round. [:D]

I just had a lop-sided kill count in my favor during the last mission also due to timed fighter sweeps.  I cought a lot while landing.
Details to follow.

Good job, Jomni!

Ah... the joys of catching enemy aircraft in the landing pattern.

I think that is the "crack" that keeps me hooked on this game!

No, maybe it is when a night intruder -- IN A BOMBER STREAM -- actually shoots down a night fighter! [&o]

I'll take credit for that. When an NI detects a NJ, it acellerates to max speed, so now they have a chance of hunting and killing. In the past they'd make the contact, then that would be the end of it.

sorry, had the end game ran, was waiting to save the snaps and make the report, but got a windows update and reboot, so lost the snaps

needless to say, I won, I did send out a maxium raid day on turn 7, just to be honest, hitting most of the smaller fields

I ended up taking more losses on this one, so ended the battle with a little more lost then the RAF

I really don't care for how the Victory is set up, I didn't win anything, but the first phase of the battle, I drove the RAF back some, but still do not have AS over the southern coast, so I didn't win the battle, I am just doing well at the start of it

but, a win is a win

I think the ending score was around 800 to 600, with close to even losses between the two sides

4 Primary fields shut down, 3 hurting pretty good, 5 2ndary fields shut down

I would need about 7 more Primary's to be able to claim AS, or control of the channel, which another week would of been close to doing so

I'm happy with these results.  Hope I can replicate it.

Losses for the day

One question.
Do you advise that I go after PRI AF without squadrons to rack up some points?
I've been hitting only the ones with planes ever since the start of the campaign.

EDIT:
During the next day, my kill count was still more than the RAF by about 15 planes.
Similar statistics but my fighters are getting hit hard. Don't know if I can sustain this.
