Radar........to die or not to die.........

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Radar........to die or not to die.........

Post by captskillet »

that is the question. Allright enough of the hard bard............I'm playing 'Alder Tag' full Campaign as LW..........is knocking out the radar (or putting a hole in it) your first priority or are airfields and making the RAF come up and play #1.............what is best in wearing down RAF cause once AS is achieved then industry/terror is easy.

I kill off the radar stations because attacking them is just about all that the Stukas and JaBos are good for. Otherwise they'll be sitting on their backsides.

I think taking out radar seems important. I've played a few games and whilst my losses have always been high as LW, I think they are higher leaving radar alone. You get attacked in the channel before you get near the target and there's a chance you will scarper!

it is a two sided sword

one you want them down, so the RAF is slow to react to what you are doing

but, on the other hand, you want the RAF to react, so you can knock them down

so more of it depends on your play style

Stukas

well, I tend to keep them for the killing blow, they go out, you going to lose some, if they get hit, you may lose a lot

I try to knock the ones down that can see over the channel and leave the rest alone.  I don't mind them picking up my raids, just want it to happen later.

Supposedly ......

You should leave them up, send a small raid with a huge escort, and trash the interceptors.
Oddly enough it never works against the AI.

I have seen it work, against a human.

Losing twenty planes really hurts the Brits.

it is HARD to hurt the RAF

most of the commonly held ideas about the battle are a myth

planes were never really a issue, they were building more then they were losing, and had a good stock pile built up before the battle started

the hassle was the pilots, and there were more then they really knew they had, they didn't want to release a lot of them for action, but once, they were forced to, they did very well, and then, it was no issue

what did hurt, was the wear and tear on the pilots on the front line, the bad part is, they found out that decent pilots who were worn out, were better then fresh pilots, who were not used to the rigors of this type of battle, new, fresh Squadrons, got slaughtered in a few days, while old worn out squadrons, held together

soon they went with a A/B/C squadron idea, front line, back up, and rebuilding, once a unit got to the rebuilding stage, the good pilots were pulled and moved into a A or B squadron, while the C squadron was now moved out of the line to rebuild, these normally had few planes or pilots, and were rebuild when time and "stuff" was able to be given to them

Sarge, do you think its too easy to damage/KO the radar stations? This is SAIEW from BTR/BoB but that was always my impression. I know they repair fast but i've seen player AAR's where they are able to maintain the radar hole fairly easily.

Nik:
it takes a huge effort to maintain a gap in the Home Chain in BoB....and in BtR it is nearly impossible to blind the German forces until quite late in war...
