BOB 40: Scoring conditions after 31 days

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

BOB 40: Scoring conditions after 31 days

Post by JapLance »

From the manual:
FULL-LENGTH 1940 CAMPAIGNS
[...]Besides winning by air superiority as indicated above, a full-length 1940 campaign ends when certain scoring conditions are not met. To continue play after the first 31 days, the German player must have an air superiority level of at least 4. And, at the end of the second month, the German player must have a combined victory total of 8 or more or the game ends immediately.

My very first Full Campaign has just met the end on day 31, despite I had a 4 AS level. Maybe the manual is from the original version and this has been changed?.

I don't see anything in the data that should cause that, will have to talk with Harley to see if it is something in the code side

I have taken it past the 31st day (not sure what the scores were though)

also, we have a player who won on the 79th day, so he was able to get past the 31st

we will have to look to try and find out why your's stopped when it did

IIRC, the '40 full campaign starts with 4 AS. Is it set so the player is required to gain 4, to make a total of 8 AS by day 31? Likewise, the manual states an AS of 8 by day 40 to achieve an air superiority victory, but it doesn't. I assume it is actually a gain of 8, 12 total?

Answer finally found:
ORIGINAL: in Talonsoft's Battle of Britain 1.01 patch

(2) 1940 One-month and Full-Length Campaigns: As the German player, you must now score a combined total of 16 points to win by the end of the game. Also, at the end of the first 31 days of a full-length campaign, in order to continue play, you must have accumulated a total of 5 Air Superiority (AS) points.

So it was changed in v1.01 of the original game. Possibly the manual statement was from the original 1.00 version.
