thd appendix manual says a 3rd rate should cost 10 iron and 50 timber under the advanced economy. I see differnet costs in a game, much more iron but less gold for example...

Prices can fluctuate up and down for materials and money alike due to inflation. The rates are different for each country. Just why the money would be lower and the iron higher I have no idea-doesn't make sense. I suspect that the manual has not been updated to the latest game updates.

I would expect inflation to have realtively similar effects on other units, but other builds are exactly the same cost as quoted in the manual...

Some of the costs may have been changed in the first patch.  I have a vague recollection about textile costs in particular.
 
Maybe somebody with a better memory can elucidate.
 
Occasionally, and randomly, problems and solutions collide. The probability of these collisions is inversely related to the number of committees working on the solutions. -- Me.
