BTW, I'm not automatically impressed by a 23-page bibliography.

The Luftwaffe
Creating the Operational Air War, 1918-1940

James S. Corum

University Press of Kansas, 1997.

You can probably pick up a used copy cheap like i did. I heard of the book a couple years ago after lurking on a thread of similar topic over at a major aviation website forum. It piqued my interest at the time given I held a similar view of the Luftwaffe as largely a tactical airforce. Was busy with other stuff at the time but put it on the mental booklist. Last fall i was browsing a used bookstore in DT Fleattle and spotted the book. Recalling the past arguments i picked it up cheap for $7.00

Changed and expanded my view of the Luftwaffe as an organization. Very well written and researched. Makes for a good companion to works on the USAAC and RAF.

If your going to dismiss an acredited author as lazy, you should get the facts first. 23 pages of bibliography doesn't automatically make an author right. Lazy however? nein.

Sorry, but that sounds like the old "We were just following orders" revisionist schtick to me, and lazy scholarship on the part of the author.

I suggest you check out the book before you condemn the author as lazy. Corum's work covers the Luftwaffe's genesis and development from 1918 - 1940, and includes an overview and history of the WWI Ger airforce. He draws heavily on German language archival sources, and his overall bibliography is 23 pages long.
I haven't read the book you guys are discussing here, but I have some inputs on the author. James S Corum is a professor of military history at USCSC at Fort Leavenworth. He has written another book, "The roots of Blitzkrieg" which we use as course literature here at the SNDC. It has (of course) been approved by our professors and I also found that book pretty strong from a "source critical" (is there a better word for this?) perspective.

There may be a better term than 'source critical' but that sounds way too cool to change.

Depends what's written on those 23 pages. If it's all Nancy Drew books...[:'(]

I'll check it out.

Just ordered the book. $13.57 for a new copy isn't bad at all.
