TF not autodisbanding

Post by erstad »

Here's the save, screenie in next message.

This TF has only 2 hexes to go to port, and has 2 hexes of movement left even after the ops it's used. So it should hit the port at the end of the night movement phase, and has the whole day movement phase to disband. However, it doesn't, as can be seen by running the save.

If there's some restriction on auto-disbanding, it would be good to know what they are so we don't get surprised. This poor guy got pasted. Of course, if it's a bug it would be nice to fix!

I've seen other reports of folks having issues with autodisband as well.

This is a timing issue. Not sure it is a bug, not sure it is not. TFs auto disband at the end of each phase, when the message DISBANDING HUMAN CONTROLLED TASK FORCES is displayed. A TF can arrive at it's home port during a turn and then be attacked before the auto disband happens.

Is this right or wrong? How quickly does disband happen in real life?

<Light bulb goes on>

There are actually TWO issues here. I think.

First, the DISBANDING HUMAN CONTROLLED TASK FORCES occurs at the end of the day. So even though they could arrive at the port early in the naval phase they won't go in until the end of the day. Whether that is WAD or suboptimal I'll let the devs decide, although I will note that a user-initiated disband is instantaneous.

However, I think there is a second issue. I looked at the combat event file. Even though I am running two day turns, the DISBANDING HUMAN CONTROLLED TASK FORCES only appears once in the file. (I do see, for example, two "TRAINING SHIP CREW" messages, one for each day). Either the message is not displayed for the first day or the phase is not being performed, I'm guessing the latter. This would seem to be a bug; each day should have the same resolution phases regardless of how many turns in a day, me thinks.

In fact, this explains something I've noticed and hadn't figured out yet. Sometimes I'll have a TF returning to base that I expect to autodisband (rearming as it does so) on day 1, but when I get my turn back the ships have ops points used even though they should have been idle the second day. However, if they never disband on day 1 of a two day turn cycle then I'll always get them with ops points used regardless of how close to port they started.
