Screen Resolutions?

Post by NefariousKoel »

This has been a big factor in my game purchasing lately.

What screen resolutions will be supported?

There have been a few games from Matrix I would've bought recently, however they were limited to lower screen resolutions. That would've been fine if I had a CRT with no native resolution but, nowadays, it's a game breaker for me and my 21"ws LCD.

I am slowly coming round to this issue also. I just find the stretched look too much to bear nowadays...and I only have a 17" flat...but HoI2 (one of my fav games) seldom gets played because it hurts my eyes.

HoI2 can be run at 1280x102, with some ini hack.

Fixed resolutions. This is a major issue keeping me from bying quite a few Matrix products.

With the exception of older titles, I don't buy games with fixed resolutions at all. Developers refusing this essential feature must be either inept or CRT users hopelessly living in the past. Running a 2D strategy map with sharp graphics on a non-native LCD resolution is absolutely horrible. Some people don't notice the difference but they must either have absolutely lousy screens or be esthetically blind.

I don't have HOI2 but I do have Crusader Kings by Paradox and all of their games use the same basic game engine so perhaps the hack I use in CK to get widescreen will work on HOI2 also. It's very simple, just open settings.txt in the root game folder and change to the res you want. Here's my settings.txt file for CK as an example.

1680
1050

I saw a guy post one day that Crusader Kings is his favourite game but he no longer plays it because of the limited res. I told him the fix and he was quite pleased. LOts of games can be forced to use widescreen even if they don't support it out of the box and one just needs to go here to find possible solutions. http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wi ... s_List_-_A
I see people praising Arjuna for adding widescreen support to his new game that is coming out, well, his games have always supported widescreen and just needed one to add some switches to the command line to get widescreen. I guess lots of people have been playing COTA and HTTR stretched on their widescreen monitors because they didn't know about the solution.

That's nice but I was wondering about widescreen support in LnL. [;)]

Perhaps you can provide a link to the solution. I too have the problem.

IIRC..
you just enter a resolution in as a -switch on the shortcut to the game. I believe there's a thread in the HTTR forums. Somewhere. That has the exact syntax.

Probably -1680x1050 or some such as an example.

All the forums available? In my passing interest I was only aware of 2 forums, Matrix's and LoL's?

I have the habit of supporting products that both interest me and whose development I can follow. Matrix games releases good products generally from developers that I really enjoy. Most are very open and helpful in explaining certain aspects at varying times. WCS, MWiF, WitP AE etc. are prime examples. I will even buy their product to support them at times if I feel that they are decent folk.

Then there are developers that come off to me as arrogant and pompous. They have the attitude that it is a privilege to even have the chance to discuss the limited details they allow to be released. Rarely offering even a glimpse at their product and often snide in their approach, my thrill for the game wanes. At that point I could care less about them or their 'project', instead having the opinion that if they release a GREAT game I MIGHT consider purchasing it. Otherwise they can keep it held close to their own bloated ego.

You can decide for yourself what we have here. I myself have already come to a conclusion.

He had enough time to post that he doesn't have enough time to keep up with all the forums. Instead of posting that, he could have simply said yes or no to the original question.

I'm getting the answer is:

not at the moment
maybe later
we don't care

On the official forum he wrote this:
I don't know the answer to this... I do know that we just got the game working on a wide variety of laptops a couple of weeks ago.

Can you point out exactly where anyone said, we don't care? 'cause I can't find it.

We care a lot, we are just asking everyone to care at the same place we do.

LOL, I only wish. Consimworld (five separate forums for our games), Boardgamegeek (Really can't guess how many...perhaps ten forums?), Armchair General, LNLP, Matrix, Wargamer. Guys we release something like 10 products per year, with a tiny company.  We try to do our best, and really do appreciate the input.
