Game Scroll Speed update...Fixed on Windows 7

Post by JudgeDredd »

Just for your info really...

Having suffered a hard drive failure on my boot drive, I took the liberty of buying Windows 7 with a new hard drive.

Previously with Windows XP, I had to set Cores to using 1 and set DirectDraw off. Setting cores to use one increased the speed of loading the game and a scenario. Setting DirectDraw off made the unbearably slow scroll speed when Highlighting Targets disappear, although it left graphical glitches all over the play area.

With Windows 7, I have set Cores to use one Always and left DirectDraw and the scrolling is fine.

If I use All Cores, then the scrolling gets unbearable again when setting Highlight Target Damage is turned on.

But I have not touched the DirectDraw element and the scrolling seems fine if I am using one core. Maybe because I've got DX10?? Funnily enough, I had noticed no scrolling problems with my Core Duo laptop using Vista (Again DX10)

Don't know, but a happy bunny.

If you need me to do more testing, then I'm all ears.

Thanks, JD.

I just want to state clearly the 90% of the intellectual work came from Michael McFarlane. I just used his advice, customised his code, then added the buttons to the prefs screen, rather than using the switches that WITP:AE has.

Judge;

Thanks!
I'm glad to hear that. My copy of '7' is in route.

As for the Duo laptop running multicore not a problem -- well, during the action phase it was a little fast.
My only problem was with both video cards enabled -- slow scroll with night ON and it being nighttime. I wonder if any of the desk toppers has this issue?
Disable the big boy and everything was fine.

I digress... [>:]

Thanks again for being the guinnie pig! [;)]
