Screen resolution

Post by cgoddard »

Whilst the screen size is fine in Vista in Win 7 it is compressed.

Are there any specific settings I need to amend for this game?

Thanks

The only change you can make is to play it in a window.

Ok - Just need to amend the shortcut properties?

Strange that it is different on the same screen.

That is strange.  I know a number of people have played it with the Windows 7 beta and they reported no screen issues.

It is kind of weird that I can run this game at 800x600 resolution on my computer but the game quite often crashes if I run it at 1024x768 res. I have like a 1.4Ghz pentium 4 with 1GB memory and 256mb graphics video. It doesn't seem to make sense as I have plenty of memory and video memory. Also have an 80GB hard drive with 50% free.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? It is a real hassle having to switch back and forth down to 800x600 res every time I want to get back into the game from everything else I do on the computer.

I am having the same problem, but playing on a laptop.  No matter what switch setting I have on, full screen or windowed I get the same size screen for the game, also while in window mode it will not allow me to increase or decrease the size of the window.  I would love to be able to use my full computer laptop screen, before I go blind trying to see the current small screen.

I don't know what's up with having to set the computer to 800X600.  The game runs at 1024X768, so it will change the resolution when the game starts.  It should work if the computer is set to 1024X768, you have an odd situation with your hardware.

As for changing the resolution of the game, due the graphic nature of the application, everything is measured in pixels and if the resolution is changed, all the art has to change too.  To accommodate a new resolution, we would have had to practically rewrite all the information screens from the ground up.

It takes a few days per screen of fiddly detail work (I know, I've reworked a few of the screens and created a brand new one for Patch 2).  I don't want to really think about how much work it would be to redo every one of the dang things in the entire game.

I have a new computer coming next week with Windows 7 and a 23 inch 1920x1080 LCD monitor.
I decided on using my old computer with Windows XP and a 21 inch CRT monitor exclusively for WITP AE.

If I used the new computer with Windows 7 and widescreen monitor, AE would be much smaller and blurrier(because of the non native resolution) than with my old computer.
So much for modern technology.
Atleast I have a good use for my old computer.

Like some others I am still trying to find a combination of settings to get a full screen for the game.

Sorry to be thick but can someone explain the steps to add the windowed (-w) command line switch. I tried adding it to filename of exe but no effect.

Thanks

Ok I can see what to do but cannot see anything labelled Quick Start only the Main Application itself - is that the one? I don't appear to have anything labelled Quick Start in the Vista installation either.

I have an Nvidia GTX275.

Ok, in the Programs menue there should be a topic named war in the pacific Admirals edition.
After choosing this, you should see a lot of different options. If you dont there are small black arrows at the bottom, just move your mouse there, and the hidden options should be there. If you have deleted files from there, you have to create new shortcuts. Open the WITPAE folder and click once with the right mouse button on the WITPAE.exe. select create shortcut. The computer will make a new icon for you. Now select this one, again one right click select properties, now you can change the target line.
Then just drag the icon on your desktop and everything should work perfect.

I set my laptop to 1024x768, and I got exactly the size of screen the game is, the problem I have about two inchs of black unused screen on each side, (just like before), totally defeating the purpose of this large laptop screen. Is there some way I can get my laptop to not do this or the game to not do this, perhaps a work around? I would love to use all of my screen to make this game much easier to see for my 46 year old eyes. Any ideas out there......and keep in mind I am no computer expert here, just an old soldier/wargamer. (Of note, I don't have this problem on my desktop screen which is a large LCD 22in, but I am not home to use that computer because I am in Afghanistan using my laptop.) Any help would be great.

I an using XP with a 27.5 monitor - 1920 x 1200 - you are going to LOVE AE on the big screen. Even old eyes can read the map.

Tried the windows option which produces a small un expandable window.

My monitor has no specific drivers to allow a fill screen option so looks like I am stuck with the black bars as game wll not resize as it does in Vista.

ChrisReb

Try with your graphic card drivers settings (NVIDIA control panel)

"Change flat panel scaling" and then select "Use NVIDIA scaling"

If you cannot select or hold that selection (only display bult-in scaling), try first reducing the screen resolution to any res below the native one and then "Use NVIDIA scaling"

Hope this helps
