Additional aircraft info

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

I can't find it in the e-manual. Where is it hidden?

I found it, but boy is it buried! I'm not sure if there is a shortcut to find this or not. I'm not even sure that I could get back to it easily. You can change what is produced and you can change the type of aircraft that is in a squadron if you have enough replacements available. Production starts out being controlled by the copmputer and that's probably where I'll let it stay! About the only thing that I may do is swap out planes in a unit.... I can't find anything in the manual about this and I've went through it several times???

not sure, what do you need to know ?

changing plane types ?

go to a plane unit (list Air units)

click on the button on the side of the plane unit, top of screen with have a show detail button, click on that, that brings up the unit detail page

on the bottom of the page, is somethings you can do, move the unit, change the plane type, look at the pilot screen, look at the Honor rolls

click change plane type and it will bring up a screen that shows the planes you have in stock that you can change the unit over to

or am I misunderstanding you ????

I'm probably misunderstanding myself. What you described is about as far as I will get into production. I did find buried somewhere that you can change a factories production of certain plane types, I think??

I couldn't find anything in the manual on this feature(s). Sometimes I can't see the trees because of the Woods...

Thanks Sarge. Is any of this documented in the Manual? If it is, I sure couldn't find it!!

Probably shoud start a new thread but then useful answers get spread all over and lost in time.

Question is if the game take alt. into consideration during the combat turn, should flying the B-17G`s at max alt. un-escorted result in fewer losses ? So far I haven`t seen this to be true.

that is tricky

the 109 is not going to be as good at 27 K as it at 18 K, but it is going to be better then a 190 at the same Alts

now that being said, if it gets off an attack, the attack run is still going to be the same (the bombers MVR is so much worse then a fighter, that the different is not that noticable)

also, you go the BG, a BG in a nice tight formation is going to be HARD to attack, one that has taken some losses, , so damaged or is breaking up due to pressure, is going to be much easier to attack and hurt, you may see, out of a raid, most of the losses seem to come from only a couple of units, those are from units that had there formations broken up

Hard_Sarge;

I downloaded Baron's spreadsheet and have been adding availibilty dates, replacement rates, etc.

For the altitude mods I figure you added four bands, low, medium, high, very high with a -2, -1, 0, +1, +2 mod for each band being possible.
NO! I'm not asking for the exact number. [;)]

But, this thought crossed my mind.

Since we now have altitude bands, and the pilots know what altitude they operate best at... and, mission assignments... and...

During the turn engaged aircraft lose altitude, but after the engagment, *** planes are not returning to operating altitude. ***
I'm not talking about planes returning to base, but long-range Allied fighters continuing to provide escort.

Shouldn't this be looked into?

The operating altitude is set during plotting or interception. So, an "unengaged" plane would check for a difference and begin climbing, at climb rate, back to its assigned operating altitude.

Also, units would attempt to reform after engagements. But, that is for another thread [:'(]

from this screen shot (I looking for something else, but...)

look at the planes for 611, the added in box is 3 minutes later, combat has ended

those look to be trying to climb back up to alt

(one stack of 3 could be either)

not sure what the 124 is holding place, but...

the rest look to be trying to regain alt

I think the actual availability date for the new types I've so far encountered is slightly different from the list published here. On 1 December 1943 in my game these types became available:

Fw190A-8
Fw190A-8/R7
Bf109G-5/AS
(as well as the He219 that I was expecting)
These types are slated for 1 January 1944 on all the information I've seen.

The reason I think this is intended rather than some random bringing forward by one month is because on the "List Air Units" screen, the date of (12/43) is shown against these types, where for example, the Ta154 staffel you get early shows (7/44) as expected.

Incidentally, this screen also suggests that the "pak" version of the aircraft becomes available a month later than the main type... the option to fit cannon is not available on the A-8s (I'm still in December), but the Sturmstaffel (the A-8/R7 staffel you get early) can be made A-8/R8 and shows (1/44) on my List Air Units summary screen.

from the data all but the 219 show a start date of 1/44 (219 is 12/43)

you sure you didn't have some in production from the start ?

one plane a day would be enough to pull any of those forward (just)

the Paks could be a quirk in the code ( I understand what I think, but not enough to try and explain the how and why)

a little info for the 43/44 campaign, LW side

5 Bf 109G-2
6 Bf 109G-5
7 Bf 109G-5/AS ..... 1/44 High
8 Bf 109G-6
9 Bf 109G-6/R6
11 Bf 109G-10 ..... 11/44
12 Bf 109G-10/R6
13 Bf 109G-14 ..... 7/44
14 Bf 109G-14/R6
15 Bf 109H-2 ..... 6/44 very good high
16 Bf 109K-4 ..... 9/44
17 Bf 109K-6

I'm thinking of getting matrix's version of BRT, and I have small question Hard Sarge of the above list is the release version of the 109s list in the game. I'm kind of surprised that you have G-5/AS on the list which according to my books only about 76 of G-5/AS and 16 of G-5/R2/AS we actually delivered. You don't seems to have the more dominant G-6/AS (686 delivered) and G-14/AS about 1000 produced/delivered, I have the production numbers by Messerchmitt, Erla and WNF factries. Is it because this list is not up to date or that you don't have performance data on G-6AS (DB 605 AS) or G-14/AS (BD 605 ASM) ? I'm just wondering :)

Also the difference between G-5 and G-6 (in 1943) was that G-5 was basically G-5 with pressurized cockpit as well keeping the old MG17 machine guns instead of MG131 used in G-6 (MG 131 was heavier than MG17) The G-5/AS (BD 605AS) did not have pressurized cockpit due the DB 605 AS engine.

The G-10 were according to my sources delivered starting from October 44 and not November as you have it listed above. I wondering if that is a typo.

Btw My sources are Messerchmitt Bf 109 F/G/K Series - An illustrated Study by Prien & Rodeike.

I think the reference to 109-G5AS is a typo. I suspect G6AS was intended.

Probably. It does have MG131s after all. The picture is wrong though - the AS engine's engine cowling didnt have the "bulbs".

I just bought the game last night...is there a database editor for this version of the game so that I could correct the G-5/AS typo ?

Thanks!

I only have so many art's to pick from, a bunch of them, are more of "what" I could use, more then what I want to use

okay, G5/AS

going to claim, designer rights here

I wanted/needed something for the G5 to upgrade to, I didn't want the LW to have to wait till late war to have a replacement for the G5, so I added the G5/AS

so, yes the G5/AS is correct and not a typo

I didn't want to add the G6/AS as a upgrade to the G5,G5/AS as I thought it would be confusing to the "normal" player to have a G5 upgrade to the G6 line, while the G6 didn't

(now, the player can do what ever they want, but the AI has to follow the rules (with in reason)

if it is felt that the G6/AS should be part of the game, I can make up some models for it, but depends on the player, also, would be upgrade for the G5,G5/AS then for the G6 ????

Ok first, G-5/AS needs to have MG17 machine guns and not MG131. Regarding the Upgrade path I would do the following for the AI:

G-5 or G-5/AS ----> G-6/AS -----> G-14/AS -----> G-10

I believe G-6/AS and G-14/AS should be in the game as the 686 G-6/AS were built and about 1000 G-14/AS were built.

Here are some pictures of G-6/AS

Here is an interesting DB 605 engine page:

http://w1.1861.telia.com/~u186104874/db605.htm

The following units received G-6/AS:

Late Spring 1944:
III./JG1
I./JG5
II./JG11

Early Summer 1944
I./JG3
II./JG27
I./NJGr 10

The following Units received G-14/AS

JG1
JG3
JG4
JG5
JG6
JG11
JG26
JG27
JG51
JG52
JG53
JG76

Both G-6/AS and G-14/AS used MG131 machine guns and either 20mm canon MG151/20 or 30mm K108.
