Resources for allied player?
is there much movement of 'resources' that the allied player needs to worry about? I figured I had to move some 'resources' (not fuel or supplies) to australia, so i created a transport convoy of 10 ships and did a 'load resource' in LA. Same thing in San Fran and sandiego, but smaller.
both convoys sat, unloaded, for 5 turns. nothing was loaded. no difference i could see in anything in australia.
is the resource movement more a worry for the japanese player?
thanks

Yes. By a large margin. It'll turn your hair grey. If it's already grey, then white. After white it'll all fall out - what's left that you haven't already pulled out by the fistful, that is. At which point you'll bear a pretty strong resemblance to everyone else in the Japanese High Command. [;)]
RE: Resources for allied player?
There's a lot of resource production in Australia, pretty sure you don't need to worry about sending resources there. Pearl Harbor can use some resources for its industry, though - you can get them nearby at Hilo and Christmas Island if you want though. The Kiwis can use resources as well - if anything you might want to ship resources from Australia to NZ. Don't forget that Noumea produces some resources too.
But resources are a very minor worry compared to fuel.

RE: Resources for allied player?
There isn't actually any reason to ship resources around as the allies. You might want to move a bit from Tasmania to Australia proper and maybe from Hilo to Pearl as those routes are very short and you can find some xAKL willing to do them, but from WC to Australia ? Just send the supply then.

RE: Resources for allied player?
In Australia there is always Adelide and Whyalla that seem to be wallowing in Resources. I normally try to ship these to Melbourne and Sydney and sometimes to NZ.
The Hilo/Christmas Island to Pearl Harbour route has been covered above.
Other than that you don't need to do much. At the begining it could be usefull to empty the small islands near Palembang and Palembang proper to send the resources to Batavia. Also could be beneficial (but very dangerous) to send the supplementary resources found in the Philippine islands to Manila, but don't use anything larger than 1 AK TF so as not to attravt undue attention.

Tasmania produces a lot of resources. Noumea also produces a little. The rousources needed to keep Australian production going can be found closer to home than North America.

wont the stuff on the aussie mainland ship via rail automatically like supply/fuel does?
I will try sending some resources from NZ. but i still dont understand why my task forces on the west coast wont load up resources. they just sit at the dock, doing nothing.

RE: Resources for allied player?
Probably has to do with the fact that all the industry in those ports 'reserves' those resources for it's own use. It won't allow anything to pull the resource total under a certain number.

RE: Resources for allied player?
Yes, each base has demand levels for supply, oil, fuel, and resources. It will try to keep at least 2X of the demand in stock and will be reluctant to part with any of it.
The biggest resource center in Australia is on the west coast and not on the rail line. You will have to move resources by ship. It's one of those desolate ports south of Darwin about halfway to Perth. The actual resource center is inland, but all types of resources (oil, supply, etc.) will tend to move towards the largest port in range if all local needs are met.

I think you're thinking of Whyalla and Adelide I spoke of before. Make sure that the port at the former is rapidly enlarged or it can become a real bottleneck. BTW Whyalla has something strange about it - it always has 4000 resources. Even if you drain it, next turn will have 4000 resources...
RE: Resources for allied player?
Why do you want to keep resources flowing to Australian industry? Why not just let it starve?
Feeding it will produce HI points (which are useless), and supply. It will burn FUEL.
Fuel is harder to ship to Australia than supply; you have plenty of AKs, not enough TKs.
Just ship the supplies in you need. Let the HI starve, and save a little fuel.
Better yet, you can use the ships you are now NOT using to haul resources to go get supplies. Granted it's a longer trip, but supplies take up alot less cargo space than the resources you need to make the supplies.
Am I missing something?
As the Allies, I wouldn't haul ANY resources or OIL, ever. Just haul supplies and fuel, cut out the middle-man.

RE: Resources for allied player?
Not even shipping in fuel seems a bit dramatic, you'll need quite a bit for fleet operation, except if you're basing everything from Auckland that is. Or do you plan to stockpile it there and bring it over once things have stabilized a bit ?

Absolutely ship FUEL. I advocate not shipping any RESOURCES to Australia, and letting the HI starve. That will improve your fuel situation, as it will reduce burn rate. And don't bother with OIL, why ship OIL when you can ship the finished product?
My point: I just don't see a benefit for the Allies to EVER load resources or Oil onto a ship and move it, and you can argue that it's actually harmful.
RE: Resources for allied player?
It makes some sense, though I have managed to ship enough fuel to Australia to keep its industry going for a long time, so if I ship resources locally, it can produce enough supply to meet regional needs indefinitely. My carriers are in the DEI, so they aren't drawing down Australian fuel stocks.
I do agree about shipping oil. Australian refineries are so small, it makes little difference.

Misunderstood you, I thought you said not to ship fuel and so let the HI starve.

RE: Resources for allied player?
Oil has to be converted by refineries before it can be used by ships or industry, and Australia has very little refining ability. Oz needs fuel and lots of it, though, so I ship fuel from Abadan and the WC to Perth and Sydney, then around the coast in smaller TF's.

I was thinking of Corruna Downs and Port Hedland. I see Whyalla is a bigger Resource center than Corruna Downs, but Port Augusta is on a rail line, so Resources won't pile up there.
The 4000 points is one day's production from the Resource center. It lingers for a day before moving.
