AE/Original comparison?
i am currently enjoying AE very much, but the thought of playing through the entire month of december (not too much fun, really) when the game gets patched and such doesnt much appeal.
So i am strongly considering, at that point, to going back to stock WITP since it offers a mid-42 or mid-43 full campaign start (i dont care if its not 100% historically accurate - it is a game, after all, and the minute you move your first ship youve deviated from the 'historical' record anyway, unless you have access to every ships logbook!)
besides the naval bombardment/air combat / ground bombardment changes, and more aggressive AI, what are the major differences? I wont miss pilot or altitude management; they are nice, but not really 'necessary' imho. is witp still enjoyable after playing ae?
thanks

RE: AE/Original comparison?
I couldnt go back because of :-
1)Sub patrol zones.
2)TF waypoints.
3)air to air combat model.
4)The new Map + railroad movement.
And most likely more i cant remember off the top of mu head. Things i could do without though (DEc scenario)
1) american air groups heading to europe clogging up my mainland airbases and potentially getting valuable and rare a/c unless i'm careful. Again in April and May 42.
On balance .. keep AE going. I would love to see and i think we will sooner rather than later, is a May42 start (fingers crossed patch 2 ) even as Japan i prefer this option once the imitial fun of taking the PI and DEI gets a bit tiring.

I still have two WITP PBEM games going, and one WITPAE PBEM.
I enjoy all of them.
The basic WITP is, by any measure, an extremely complex and detailed game; only slightly less so when compared to WITPAE. While I prefer WITPAE (because, at the heart of it, I am a gaming junkie), the standard WITP is still a fun, enjoyable and challenging game.

No comparison, dude. It's absolutely no contest. AE is so much more engrossing and polished-I will never go back to WiTP or UV.is witp still enjoyable after playing ae?
I also won't be playing a lot of ZORK!, Pong or the original Text Adventure. All were great games at one time, but I'm on to bigger and better things now.

RE: AE/Original comparison?
I have enough trouble looking at the old map!
There are so many more choices just for landing sites and such than the old witp. Think about it: how many places could you make a landing on Java that weren't going to be heavily defended in witp? In AE, the map scale has increased so much that there are many potential landing sites. I for one like this, because it reflects the difficulties of defending a large area more accurately. China is entirely changed by the map changes. A player has more options.
TF waypoints and patrol zones are absolute must haves! The old WitP looks stupid for not having these.
More options for planes=good
The ground combat model, although still debatable, is no longer a pass/fail sort of thing. There is the potential for a prolonged battle, just as in real life.
I can't imagine going back and playing WitP instead of AE.

No chance that I'll ever play WITP again. AE is the best game ever created. Why take '74 Pinto for a spin when you have a corvette in the driveway?

I know WHAT Cleveland is (a moderately large city in the state of Ohio), but how was it in your backseat? Otherwise, what is the context of THE Cleveland in your back seat?ORIGINAL: rogueusmc

Wasn't a " Cleveland " in this context a Ford engine ? But I am confused about the refernece to the back seat.

Cleveland refers to the 351 Cleveland Ford engine and since the Pinto was pretty small it probably extended past the firewall and into the backseat..........[:D]............I bet it would haul butt wouldn't it Tyler!!!!

Yep...351 cubic inches of Ford big block V-8...the rear end was chopped and the wheel wells were tubbed for drag slicks. Wheelie bars were definitely necessary because of the lack of weight in the front. The little car would fly if it had had wings.[8D]

Oh...the back seat was removed actually...the engine took it's place behind the driver...[:D]

You can shoehorn a 351 Cleveland into the engine compartment of a Pinto.....with major modification to the engine compartment. A friend of my dad's did it. Always wondered why.....it was STILL a PINTO. Though I have to admit it was the only one I ever drove that wasn't underpowered.

I guess the more things change the more they remain the same. Spinner rims and cherry bomb mufflers on rusted out 20 year old Hondas are the order of the day today. [8|]ORIGINAL: rockmedic109
