Never ending Guadalcanal?

Post by Gresbeck »

Playing Guadalcanal as the Allies vs AI (hard). According to the briefing, the scenrio should end on February, 7th. It's now March and the game is still going on (and rather boring). I've Lunga (including Tassafaronga) and Tulagi, PM and Gili Gili. Japs carriers are all sunk (I've lost no carrier, although 2 of them have gotten major damage). I don't know if I should have gone for Munda and Shortland, and I don't know if it's worth to plan for an invasion. In any case I would like to see a nice screen saying I won the scenario [;)]. On the contrary, every new turn I see my VP dropping (and I don't know why, maybe cause of some undersupplied bases, I had 8.800 VP and now I've only 8.000). Any suggestion about what i could do to end (and possibly win) the scenario?

I think April 1st 43 is the last day of play.

If your holding all the key Allied bases by 43 as Allies, you've won. (PM/Milne Bay/Tulagi/Lunga)

As allies you could capture a lot more, take a trip to Truk and see whats there?
I have played this scn PBEM three times only won as Japs once , the other times the allies have cleared the plate . The allies can stroll round the whole map with their CV and trash everything

I call this my training scn now ...

The scenario is definately harder for the Japan player. Hindsight works against them, particularily where land reinforcements are concerned. the PP structure helps in this regard but it's still tough. Variable reinforcments makes it more interesting. There's also a problem with long range aviation being nerfed. I may release a mod version to try to address it.

Still if the Allied player is careless, he can be spanked. Preservation of the USN carriers is critical.

Dear Thread.......is there no cut-off........I Know I've lost my on-going Guad Sc. with Speedy...as it's Feb 3rd '43....and I've been unable to take any of the 4 bases......but thought mid-Feb the cut-off....so I've been sending loads of ships back to the HIs........and airgroups........

I think April 1st 43 is the last day of play.

I can confirm that. My game ended on April 1, '43. There was no auto victory at the beginning of '43 even though I controlled all the key bases.

Can also confirm if there supposed to be an AV on 1st Jan 1943 it doesn't kick in for the Allies.

Thanks for the information. I will go on playing till April. As as as it concerns playing the scenario as the Japs, I'm experiencing how much harder it is in a current PBEM. By the way, I wonder if it's possible to stop the allied invasion during the first turns (in my PBEM I've been overcautious, but I tested the scenario vs the AI and my fleet was detroyed when I tried to engage the allied invasion force). But that's probably a question for the war room.
