OBB repairs

Post by hbrsvl »

Hi-Playing scen. 6, Allies, 3/17/42. I have a major problem with repairing PH strike damage to West Virginia & California, both in the shipyard at PH.
West Virgina has following damage: 70 sys,76 flt,45 eng, 0 fire. The days estimated to repair are 1530. She has been in PH shipyard since 12/9/41.
California has similar, though a bit lesser damage, with an estimate of 1300+ days.

1530/365=4.19 yrs. California's is 3.67 years. Is there any way to mitigate this huge time required, besides setting both to "priority"?
Both are in the red for floatation, so I can't move them to SFO, etc.

Should I send them to sea and pray they will get to SFO safely? I'd like ideas, please. I know I'm going to need that shipyard space later in the game.

Thanks, Hugh Browne

I sent two BB's with less damage to SF and they sank within three days so I would advise against it. Their estimated time to repair was less than 300 days each.

I read in another thread that one should repair the system damage so that all the pumps are working before making the trip to the west coast.

That's kind of the consensus, don't send out ships with high flotation, any minor flotation or with system damage if you can help it.

Edit : If you just want the space and are no longer interested in bringing them back in shape, put them on pierside or readiness with low priority.

Smeulders-Thanks. However, with flotation for both in the high 70s, I'm afraid they'll sink at pierside on me. HB

They won't, ships at pierside will only get extra damage if there are still fires aboard.

Edit : You can't choose which damage is repaired, the priority is listed in the manual somewhere. However, if you put it on pierside, it will only repair minor damage. Systems damage doesn't have major, so the fastest way to get all system damage away is to put it on pierside. Do try to get flotation lower first though, even without system damage 70 major flotation is a very risky undertaking. I'd advise to keep them in PH until flotation is under at least 40, if you need the space in the shipyard, just keep them at pierside and switch to shipyard if there is extra capacity.

Things to check:

Is the floatation damage major or minor? Minor (flooding) repairs (pumps out) rapidly. Major takes the time.

What else is in the shipyards? If there are other ships, especially those with high or ciritical priority, these ships might end up sucking hind teat.

Don't be afraid to post a screenshot or a save.

Check your shipyard; is it overloaded (exceeding the maximum tonnage that can be worked on at any one time)?  If it is, the repair times go way up.  I've got a couple of those 'shipyard queens' too, but I just put them in shipyard repair whenever I don't have anything else needing to be worked on, and switch them to pierside when I do.

As suggested I'd definately put them both on pierside repair. Major FLOT and ENG damage will not repair so Sys will get done first. Between other priority jobs, put the BBs to shipyard to knock some FLOT points off. After 3 months they 'may' be ready for a trip to the West Coast (but only if SYS = zero).
