Bonjour a tout la monde!

[:-] Simon, you speak as well as Martin [:D][:D][;)]

should be :

"Bonjour a tout LE monde" [:)]

"Mother" earth is gender confused?

We have different words. With different meaning (well, like any others language of course). What is difficult is to understand the precise meaning:
-"monde"; male gender; mean "the world", so it could be the planet, or the people living on it. We say "world is at us" when we want to say all opportunities are possibles.
-"terre"; female gender; mean "the earth" (planet) but also the soil that peasants works on; mean the ground ; we have "feets on the earth" to say we have realistics idea.

but there is nothing really confusing, of course [;)]

Spare a thought for the poor Italians:

Which side of the road the Romans drove on is disputed. Archaeological evidence in Britain seems to indicate driving on the left but old Roman roads in Turkey suggest Romans used the right hand side of the road.[57] In Italy the practice of traffic driving on the right first began in the late 1890s, but it was not until the mid 1920s that it became standard throughout the country. There was a long period when traffic in the countryside drove on the right while major cities continued to drive on the left.[58] Rome, for example, did not change from left to right until 20 October 1924. Milan was the last Italian city to change to driving on the right (3 August 1926). Cars had remained right-hand drive (RHD) until this time. Alfa Romeo and Lancia did not produce LHD cars until as late as 1950 and 1953, respectively.[59]

yes, i know french is not easy with gender words.
"e" is not always designating a female gender. And such, "monde" is of male gender ; but "terre" (earth) is female. Ship is, for us french, male (and female for anglo-saxon);

and we drive right when english drive left

Well, you're at least "right" on that last one...[;)]

Of course "right" doesn't mean correct. You go ahead and do what Napoleon told you to do, we'll stick with the Roman way of doing things.
Pfft...Romans....what have they ever done for civilization?

Except for aqueducts.

Aqueducts and roads.

Aqueducts, roads and schools.

Aqueducts, roads, schools and civil governance.

Aqueducts, roads, schools, civil governance and military development. Aqueducts.....alright, you get the point.

Roman way ??? in a country with a anglo-saxon culture and laws and everything else [X(].

I suspect he meant 'Latin' way, i.e. according to the Latin gender rules. [:'(]

We like anglo-saxon words and use them whenever allowed. Which isn't here.

Well, just think of the newspaper. Does that one still exist, I wonder?

We've got to have the grumpy blind dog put down today. He bit Freddie last night. No damage to the nipper, but we just can't take the chance. He has been living on borrowed time since we rescued him four and a half years ago, but there can only be so many chances. Farewell Harry, my tough little soldier...

We just watched "The Life of Brian" last night, with that argument scene in it. [:D]

It's a sad, but necessary choice we have to make in those circumstances. Sorry to hear it, Carl.

In other news, Australian concert-goers were complaining loudly about a Britney Spears concert being playback.

Er, HELLO??? It's Britney Spears! She's never sung live in her entire "career".

Morons...

Thanks guys.

He is a very tough little cocker spaniel. His pedigree name is Soldier Harry and it is very apt. He has been ill since a pup, but has lived his life with the heart of a lion. By 1700 all we will have is our memories. I can forsee a few "somethings in my eye" over the next week or so...

Very sorry to hear that my friend. I have gone through that twice with pets. It is never easy.
