Device upgrade

Post by Mistmatz »

According to the manual (16.4.1) upgrades happen automatically as long you're close by enough supplies and have enough new devices in the pool to replace the old ones.

Now, I want to make sure that I understand this correctly and device upgrade cannot be influenced by the replacement on/off toggle or any other player controlled thing. Am I right?

I may be wrong, but I think Andy Mac said, elsewhere, that the unit needs to be on Rest mode to upgrade. I'm not sure if this is in the manual.

Corrections welcome.

I presume you are refering to LCU's in order to upgrade & not air-units?  Mind you I've not got around to manually upgrading any squadrons or sentai's yet

Negative, I had a LCU upgrade a device last turn that while being in combat mode.

This is where Andy discussed this. fb.asp?m=2272945&key=

Unless I misunderstand the OP, he clearly says Rest mode is required for device upgrades.

No, u dont need rest mode. BigJ62 "overuled" Andy's misconception on that and he programed it [;)].
Currently you need twice the number of devices in the pool to upgrade and enough supplies at the base.
As far as my experience u very much need the upgrade button to be on for upgrades.

Note, that the patch will apparently change some of these conditions.
See this thread for more on the subject.

Note that the thread you quote is BEFORE the one I posted the link to. In it, two days later, BigJ62, the programmer, DOES say Rest mode is required. (Please take a look at it.)

I think we need a final answer here.

TOE Upgrades require Rest Mode
Device Upgrades require 2x devices and supply (we are changing this in patch 2 to 1x devices)

How long does an LCU need to be in "Rest Mode" before it gets the upgrades?  Is it a random time or something fixed?

OK, I may not be the only one confused by this.

I just re-skimmed Chapter 8, in particular 8.2.2. I assume that each device--gun, armored vehicle, radar--has an upgrade path in the DB, and that each falls into one of the buckets in 8.2.2. When a device change time comes, if you have 2x, etc. (soon 1x), it goes "poof" and it's the new model.

I can also envision what a TOE change would look like, changing the mix of devices, but where in the manual are they described or an example given? Can you point me to a good example in a unit that's on-board in 1942? Without looking in the editor, where in the game or which display lists coming TOE Upgrades? Is it only by scrolling through the "I" button's list of pooled devices and searching each date pair? Is it in the LCU button's displays somewhere (I'm not as familiar with them as the plane and ship buttons.)

Sorry if this seems elementary. I'm a ship guy; LCUs are my weakest aspect in the game.

OK, I think I found it. Under the TOE toggle, and then a yellow hotpoint on the individual LCU's screen? A little non-intuitive, and not well spelled out in the manual IMO. Probably not possible, but a TOE Upgrade summary screen as ships have, under the "I" button, would sure save some clicking and allow a planning overview.

Thanks for that clarification Andy.

Do you know if there is any way to control device upgrade as well (eg replacement button)?

The only time an op mode is required (rest) is for TOE upgrades, this is when a units entire TOE is replaced with a new TOE. This has nothing to do with device upgrades.

1. Device upgrades are common to both Witp and AE.
2. TOE upgrades are a new feature of AE.

James is much clearer than me at this stuff.

You can access TOE upgrades by looking at a units TOE on the LCU screen if its yellow at the top that means the TOE changes at some point (not always for the better.....)

Some forces end up with much lower establishments some end up a lot lighter as they shed heavy mot support and some arty to better junglify them
