Fabertong vs Speedy II - This time it's Personal
After a brief (AE) skirmish in the region of Guadalcanal.........Steven and I are about to undertake our re-match from old WitP........for those who didn't follow the first battle........Speedy won a fine victory by March 1945......and now I'm looking for revenge.....(it might be behind the sofa)...
While we wait for the release of Patch 2......I thought perhaps I could share some thoughts on the upcoming fight....safe in the knowledge that I have a trustworthy foe who will not be reading these pages.........I'll try to post not just what happens....but as much detail into all future ops...thoughts etc.....and welcome all JFBs to share thoughts on my Evil Plans.
I'll start with the basics
Scenario 1
PDUs on ( love to play with the toys)
So far very few HRs .....
One port attack turn 1
PPs paid to move commands(manchuria etc)......and something about the Arty Problem.......let's see what happens with the patch......
KB....after a fair bit of thought.......I'm going to hit PH....and not Manila as my one port.....those who followed the last game......or indeed any game of Speedy's will know he is very good with subs......and the temptation to kill some at Manila.....was in fact very strong....but I'll stick to PH despite having little luck with PH attacks......(never sank more than 2 BBs.....in 20+ WitP games)......I'll tinker a bit with the set-up.....and will post a bit more detail once P-2 is out and I can begin
KB will attack for one turn and then move north west to meet to AOs......move between Midway and FFS and head to support the Wake Invasion......
The other TFs with KB in the Kuriles......the DDs with join the single AO move the Fuel to Saipan....then move to Shikuka to begin hauling Oil to Niigata where there is spare refining capacity.......

RE: Fabertong vs Speedy II - This time it's Personal
4th fleet area.......
The Makin Invasion force will move to Tarawa.....
The Wake Invasion force will move to Ocean Island.....
The Tarawa Invasion force will move to Nauru.....
Then the bottom two TFs, having taken their objectives, will reload and move to invade Wake.....joining KB and a SAG to support.......
I'm going to move a Zero Group....from Taiwan to Kwaj....to join the Nells based there.....as in my one test game (I ran 20 game turns)......there seemed to be no way to upgrade the Claude's in the area........sending in some Zero's will hopefully make the allies think twice about any early raiding....

David, I'm glad you decided to start this early. [:D] First question: Have you given any thought to how you are going to allocate your daitai for the PH attack?

Hi Mike.......
I'm not changing much.....my current thought is these small changes.....
Shokaku 3 to port attack
Zuikaku 3 to port attack
Hiryu 1 to airfield attack 100ft...

I'm a newbie
Question - "PPs paid to move commands(manchuria etc)......and something about the Arty Problem.......let's see what happens with the patch...... "
For example, does this mean that if you move an artillery unit from Manchuria to China that you are required to will have to change commands?
That appears to be the only way one would have to pay PPs.

Hi Ghertz......yes, it means that ANY unit I move from Manchuria must pay the PPs before moving to another command...inc China.....ORIGINAL: Ghertz

The Arty thing is something else....we haven't quite formed the correct HR to handle the turbo charged AE Arty....and are waiting until Patch 2 to see if this has been looked at in this patch.

With the patch still a few days away.....I'll try to post thoughts on each area.....1 a day.......until release....some of this may change when I start working the turn......or if someone gives me a better Idea.....
Manchuria......
Steven has suggested an HR where no Arty units can leave Manchuria.......I don't think I'll agree to this.....from what I've read the uder-Arty is on both sides......so I'll see what changes are in the new patch.....and look to find a good HR then.......but will agree that perhaps no units...even with PPs paid should move into the Chinese Theatre....as from AARs it seems the Allies have a hard enough time ther as it is.....
I will pay the PPs early on to transfer the 2nd Air Div. at Harbin and move to NAF at Hokkaido.....to help guard my Northern Flank...and stop allied raiding in this area.........
In Vanilla WitP I would always take Attu/Kiska if only to deny use by the allies........I haven't decided what to do in AE....on this map they do seem a long way away.......and I'm not sure how much value they are to the allies......how usefull Allied LRB will be flying from here.......something to think about......
As far as Allied raiding.......I plan to split KB after the Wake invasion........(contentious, I know)........splitting Zui and Sho off to hold at Saipan....while the rest will move off elsewhere......two resons for this.......one, in my Guad Scenario it is clear that the days of a one sided carrier battle are over.....so KB even intact is not invincable...what hopes this is also true of Allied DS later......and I think the Japanese still benifit from an early Carrier engagement......two, most Allied playes wait until they spot KB and then go raiding....safe in the knowledge that our carriers are out of the way........let's see how this works....
Back to Manchuria.........I will look to move out a fair amount of good units around the map.....and will advise once the PPs are paid........and destinations set.......

David, Ted and I agreed to limit 5 artillery units to a hex. Not sure how this will work. We may change things if it doesn't work as planned.
Q-Ball had mentioned the 90 Inf Reg as a cheap buy for good troops. It's about 360 PP and the rest of the division doesn't come for over a year. It's exp/morale is 90/90. It's located on the south coast of Manchuoko NE from Korea.
I think you'll find there really aren't a lot of IJNAF bombers any more. You can say that for the air forces in general.

The Aleutians could be nasty for both sides in AE.

Here is a quick look at the Phils.......by splitting my forces thus .......I am giving Steven chances of quick counters.......this may be tempting........it may of course go horribly wrong.......but I like something that feels more of a stategy than land a huge stack.....lather/rinse/repeat.....

OOOppppssss..... sorry not to reply earlier Bruce.......yes, I am working turn 1 ...hence my low profile on the forums......
I had intended to give a full briefing on every little plan/movement....but, having spent some time on the forums....as of late......I fear, there is little new I can offer.....
So, some broad-ish strokes.....where I might deviate from some other Japanese players.....
First......I've stopped RnD on any aircraft due after 6-45.......I should have lost the war by then......or, if not....there are no real wonder weapons here to change the course of the war.......so I'll research other ...earlier airframes......also, I'm not going to increse A6M2 production.......I'll mend and make do...until I can get A6M3s online....as they have a more productive construction path......Oscar 1c will be increased ...along with Sally/Betty/Kate/Val.....
I'm moving for Tarakan early under the protection of the AAG leaving Pelau.........I hope to hit small areas with large 'Hammer blows'...rather than gather up endless small bases.....these will come later......including Gaum....which...I suspect... will sit umolested for a good month...or two...will show maps after start of turn 1.....and look to hit hard and then move on......
I have no real plans in China...I will wait and watch and gather forces......then....
Otherwise....I think I will fall into the same general plan as you see on most of the Japanese AAR forums.......
My natural disposition is, I fear, that of Defense/Counter-Punch....so I'll expect to be more cautious....and somewhat slower than most Japanese players........
Let's see how much trouble I can get in......and how quickly !

Dear Thread.....why...oh, why did I not proof-read....the above post......please overlook all the nonsense above........(which is probably all the above post!)................................

Hey faber, what about Nells? They're a different upgrade path from Bettys.
