How does the dice work?

Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets is the latest strategy title from the award-winning team at Strategic Studies Group. A synthesis of the very best elements of two critically acclaimed and top-rated game systems, Decisive Battles and Battlefront, and a successor to both, the new Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets brings to life a campaign of epic scale and dynamic battles on the Eastern Front of World War II.

How does the dice work?

How does the dice work?

I am looking beside WitP:AE for another challenging game.
Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets arouses my interest but the dice frighten me.

Dice in a strategy game?
I dont think I will like that.

Is it the idea of randomization, the scope of randomization, or the graphical depiction of actual dice that bugs you? Randomization is a part of most strategy games, particularly in combat resolution; while there are some which have a more "chess-like" constant result system, most use some form of random number generation to resolve combat and other game activities. Kharkov is no exception. The game just gives you a somewhat whimsical and old-school graphical representation of the randomization, in the form of virtual dice. The use of six-sided dice rather than, say, percentile dice is simply a design choice.

@TheWombat,
randomization is great, a must.
It´s really the graphical depiction that confused me.

I am looking for another challenging strategy game beside Witp:AE

Advance Tactics: World War II, The Operational Art of War III and Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets find my interest.
I looked in the forums and read the reviews.
However, I am not smarter.

I found the video about Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets. And I found a Demo to The Operational Art of War Vol I.
But hm... I am more confused now.

Please someone explain the difference to me or make a recommendation?

There are lots of differences, to my mind Kharkov is streets better than OAW, but then again it only has one scenario so far (admittedly with a number of variants). The dice play a key random events role in all of these types of games.

I see you are from Nuremberg, I'm from UK and visited there a few weeks back (en route to Bamberg). Very interesting place (Bamberg for beer and architecture, Nurmburg for history).

Heh, I was born in Nürnberg myself. Well, a long time ago, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
