Harpoon anw and cpu

Post by cchiang »

Why is it that Harpoon ANW uses more CPU power than Harpoon CE?
In CE, I can load a big scenarios without any issues…
Is it just the engine? Or is it because ANW has more data that needs to be processed?
Harpoon ANW also cranks up the CPU usage every time I load it… a bit annoying.

H3 ANW does calculate some things that HCE does not use so HCE can possibly run larger scenarios for it. I'm not very knowledgable of HCE so I'll leave that comparison to the HCE folks if they care.

As far as CPU usage pegging the meter, H3 ANW's UI is designed where it polls the system constantly asking for mouse and keyboard input. It does give up control of the CPU pretty easily for other programs when it is not processing actual game engine events. H3 ANW is not unique in doing this polling in the video game world.

Thanks,

-edit- corrected a bit of language.

Yah, the difference is HCE is mellower in its UI polling loop, made that change a few years back.
