"Free camera" mode not possible?

Armada 2526 continues the great tradition of space opera games. You guide your race from its first interstellar journeys, until it becomes a mighty galactic empire. Along the way, you'll explore the galaxy, conduct research, diplomacy and trade, found new colonies, maneuver mighty star fleets, and fight epic battles.

"Free camera" mode not possible?

Post by Zakhal »

To put it short:
First off, Neutron, well Done!!! I'm finding the game very fun so far. The interface is very slick in parts. The AI for the other empires is also very well done. The Tech tree is deep and detailed and the ships seem well balanced.

I have how-ever found one small thing that bugs me. The Camera Control in combat, or rather the lack there of. The Top Down view is nice and being able to scroll in is also useful. I notice if I hold down the middle mouse button (the scroll wheel) that I can tilt the view but here's where the controls get weird. Up becomes down, down becomes up, and there's no way to reverse it. Also as soon as I let off of the middle mouse button the view snaps back to top down.

How about a "Free Camera" mode so we can move around the battle field as we want. That way we can get all those awesome close up tilted views we see in the demo videos.

Add to that I would like the ability to "lock on" to the planet too just like you can "lock on" to ships.

Does the lacking camera modes have somthing to do with the limitations of the 3d engine or somthing?

I think it has more to do with the limitations of the imagination of the lead developer.

An excerpt from the beta boards.
Maccca:
the camera movement always snaps back to the top down view. Is there any way to stop this?

Neutron:
You can use F5 and F6 to get ship's eye and orbital views.
The top down mouse look feature will always snap back. I don't really see why you'd want to play with it at some weird angle/

Aroddo:
Because it's fun!

Bob is listening, so go and request your features. :)

So can you zoom in on the battle like in Sins? Also, does your mouse zoom in/out on the object (ship, planet, etc.) that your point at?

In free mode you can move only in 2d aka hover over the ships&planet. You can zoom in/out of ships but not planet by holding down scroll wheel. Overall the battle ui is a bit cumbersome and needs som time to get used to.
