How do search arcs work in Air Search

Post by findmeifyoucan »

If you want to search say from 12 oclock to 4pm is it 0 to 40 search arc allocation? I am not really sure how it works.
Also as the Japanese player with Betty's what is the best altitude for hitting ships if you dcn't care about AA fire. Is it 100 or will 2000 elevation work just as good. I do after all care a little about that nasty AA fire. LOL

The search arc starts at the foirst setting and then goes clockwise to the second. So if you set a search arc from 100 to 260 it starts at 100, swings through 180 and back up to 260.

If you set the search arc 200 to 100 its starts at 100 swings through north and down to 100.

Oh, and 4 oclock is not 40, think of the hour hand on a clock, so it's around 100.

The search arcs are in degrees around a circle, starting at the top hex and going around clockwise.  The top hex is 0 degrees, and since there's six hexes around each hex, if you clicked on two adjacent hexes the search arc would be 60 degrees (one sixth of 360 degrees) and you'd need six operational search planes to adequately search that area (each one only covers 10 degrees of the area).

So, if you clicked on the hex at 12 O'clock and the one at 4 O'clock, you actually ordered a search area of 120 degrees and would need 12 search planes to cover it.

If you use bombs, I suggest altitude 6000-8000. Usually pilots have poor LowN skill, which is bombing 5000 or below. But don't worry, Bettys using bombs don't hit anything moving anyway... [:)]

But if you use torpedoes, altitude setting doesn't matter.
