Locks up with a low Virtul Memory Msg ?

Game locked up at turn 50 of the tutorial with a low virtual mem. message. Checking on that Armada2526.exe mem. usage is 84,380K.

I can`t even start a large custom game with 10 players.

HP 2.80 Gz Celeron , XP service pack 3 with GForce 4MX 128 meg. 4 Gig RAM. I play some very large Games/App with this rig with no problems...and that is well within the Games recommended specs.
