Vanishing pilots?

Post by viberpol »

PBEM as Japan, latest patch.

I still try to work out how the new pilot management system works and it seems to me that somehow it's sending my pilots astray.

Image

My example:
Fighter sentai at Shokaku. I chose to pick veteran pilot from reserve.
Decided to pick it manually and have chosen two by "request veteran" option: Oda I., and Ohara G.
The first one appeared OK on the list of pilots of Shokaku-1 with proper delay of 3 days.
But Ohara G. just DISAPPEARED!?
He is no in the reserve pool, he is not to be seen on the list of Shokaku-1.
Although the text above says "33" pilots, the screen of the squadron says "32".
No number in parenthesis (it should at least state 1, cos Oda is delayed).
I checked the witptracker and it says Ohara G should be assigned to the squadron.
I am clueless.

Is it WAG and I cannot understand something or a bug with vanishing pilots?
This happens with DIFFERENT pilots from time to time.
Guys - pay attention before and after filling your squadrons to find if your pilots REALLY go where you want them, so we can pinpoint this problem.

Do you have a save before so I can replicate what you did?

1. The number in () is the number of pilot immediately available ( delay = 1). These are the pilots that are drawn first. Basically, inactive pilots still in the group.

2. Pilots with a delay of more than 6 days don't show up in the group screens, as don't normally WIA pilots. Check the Reserve pilot lists from the original Pilot Replacement screen. He should be there.

I can easily replicate the problem with inconsistent information while there is a difference between number of ready pilots (for example stating "Ready pilots: 13 (0)") and the actual number of counted pilots in the squadron (15).

I'll try to repeat the problem with missing pilots before and after, but it seems to happen at random...

Hmm... I see.
I found him in the reserve pool but accessed from Inteligence reports/pilot replacements/pilot pool not "request veteran".

So you say that he'll appear but it'll take him longer?
It says he's due 42/3. It is 2nd of March 42. How can I say how many days he needs to be ready to fight?

Because sometimes it can be misleading to look at the "due date".

Here are two Ito's accessed from "request veteran" from Training command.
Is "due" means how fast they can travel to my squadron?
If yes, it states "1", while after adding they're delayed: "4" and "5" days later.

Why is that?
I think it would be helpful to have all info.

The 'due/delay' is days to arrive or become active in the group.
The pilots accessed from the group shows those available in a reasonable time frame.

Showing ALL pilots just clutters the screens, and you would most likely sort it by due/delay order anyway to see the most current pilots.

Transferring a pilot between the different pools can take time (random delay is added to the pilot's arrival). Not every pilot transfer is immediate.

transfer brings your pilots closer RE: Vanishing pilots?

Post by viberpol »

OK, thanks michaelm for explanation.
However it brings another question.

Here are the screens from the same date 3.03.42 before and after a transfer of the squadron.
While stationed at Akyab --> it says I have 8 delayed pilots.
But when I transfer it to Magwe, 6 of them are showing immediately as ready, while 2 are still delayed.
Is it OK & WAD?

Don't forget that the 'delay 1' guys are immediately available to but not physically in the group. Think of them as being "on leave".
When you transferred the group, it may have needed some pilots to fly the planes to the new base. These would have come from the 'delay 1' guys.

It's not the point.
The same guys that were delayed, after transfer become immediately available same day.
Just take a look at the red lines.
Not the whole list is visible there, but 6 of the delayed are ready now.

It's not ok, unless they were spending their leave in one of the Magwe's pubs ;)

[edited]
OK, I see now what you mean. So they might be actually WITH the squadron, but just have some holidays, and when the time comes to transfer, they cancel their vacation?
;)

Right.
In some groups, pilots seem to spend all their time on leave :)
