Crash related to directsound high quality?

Post by Zakhal »

In my current game I kept crashing all the time (every 10 turns or so). It was so constant I couldnt play anymore. But today I tried to figure out the problem and I started with the sound setting.

I tried setting the sounds from high to low in the current game but I couldnt. Apparently you can change sound settings only before you start the game. After that I raised my Asus Xonar Essence STX sampling rate from 44,1khx to 192khz. I also closed all background programs and started the game.

So far I have played multiple hours without crash. Also in the first game I played I didnt have crashes like this. In that game I had low sound quality.

So if you have crashes try starting a new game with low sound quality or raise the sampling rate in your soundcard higher. You could even try other sound provider like windows media (allthough I only used directsound). It could of course be the fact that I shut down all background programs like players so if the sound thing doesnt work try that.

My op is vista64 btw.

EDIT: I played two hours more and still not a single crash.
