Deleting a Research project

How does one delete a research project? Currently the game chooses a research project automatically after the project you were researching finishes. I want to remove that selected research project and choose another. I already know how to change the project within the same field, I just want to remove the project from one field and choose another from another field.

AFAIK you can't. You can set the slider all the way down to minimum though.

With 0 funding the project becomes greyed out, it is effectively cancelled,
