'assertion failed' caused by Visual C++

Post by aqui »

I'm playing a CoG EE 8 players game. I'm Spain, the nation that combine. We played 11 turns without problems. But now after I have combined files and end my turn when I try to load .ALL file a 'assertion failed' error message pops up and I cannot load it. I attached the message

Unfortunately, Eric (= programmer) is off camping until next Sunday, and decidedly not on the internet, which means that we can't give you a good answer until then.

The only thing I can think of is that sometimes when players just send save files without zipping them something can go wrong, so if you didn't get these files all in zip files you should have the others resend. If that doesn't help then please let us know that you still need help.

Sorry about the delay.

Then I've got nothing I can recommend, other than waiting for Eric to respond. It's odd that you would have had no problems until turn 11, but I have no idea why that would be.

If you want to keep the game going you could handle PBEM turns the other way described in the manual, and have the French player take his turn and send the files to the next player, who would take his turn and send them to the next player, etc. That would involve redoing turn 11 and would slow things down, but that might get around this problem.

The error seems to indicate that one of the save files is corrupted somehow.  Would you mind zipping everything together and sending it to me at ericbabe@west-civ.com?

Was this eventually determined to be a file corruption issue? I am Spain in a game, and just developed the same problem; any help appreciate.

Unfortunately I lost many of my old e-mails in early July of 2009, so I don't have any record of this in my e-mail client.  If you'd like to zip your files together and send them to me I'll take a look.
