Speaking of the Editor

Post by Buck Beach »

Is there a way to copy-paste more than one item from one scenario to another? I have been adding ships and other items, I have found through my Internet research, to a save of one of the scenarios after Patch 1. I now want to transfer these to a save scenario after Patch 2.

I am finding the Editor very cumbersome to use for this function. Not only am I stuck with one item at a time, but, I can't have more than one scenario open at a time. So as it stands I have to open one scenario, copy the item, open the target, paste and then close and save, and start the process over again for the next, device, ship, etc, I previously created.

I will try to explain the method I use to import data from a WitP scenario into AE, from AE to AE it should be even easier as the number of data fields are the same.
My Excel is Spanish, I hope I translate the Tabs correctly...

1) export your first scenario (let´s call it scenario 50, substitute with your number) using witploadAE. You will now have a comma-separated table of all devices, aircraft,... of your scenario - not really esay to edit.
2) open a blank Excel page and click on the "Data" tab, "Get external data", "Import Data" Now you have to go to your AE scenario folder and get your first scenario file, lets say witpair050.csv An import asistent opens, click on next, in step 2 click on the checkmark listing a "Coma" as separator, click next, click finish - Accept. You will now have a wonderful and easy to edit excel table of all planes present in scenario 50! After deleting page 2 and page 3, save for example as witpair50.xls.
3) repeat step 2) with all the tables of both your old and your new scenarios, that way you can copy-paste easily, move forces around, batch-edit, filter....
4) save your finished files, but this time in a new format, instead of using .xls (Excel spreadsheet) save them as .csv, back to the old format! You will probably get a warning message but don´t worry, no data will get lost. Now, I don´t know about the US Excel, but the Spanish one saves the .csv files using a ";" as a separator instead of a "," For you to be able to import the files back into AE using witploadAE, they need to be separated by a comma, so, what I do is following
5) download CSVed, a free program fro the Internet, install.
6) In the bottom, there is a tab called "modify", "set separator to Semi-colon", click on "Open File", get your first file ( let´s continue with witpair050.csv) You will see all the data nicely as a a table in the right panel - good. On the tab "modify", click on "set separator to comma", save. Done!
7) repeat process 6) with all the scenario 50 .csv files
8) use wiploadAE to import all the files into AE
9) Open the AE scenario editor and chack if everything is correct

I hope this procedure is understandable and can help others, too!
